Nostalgia May Decide the Next Two Diablo 4 Launch Classes

Before its cancelation due to COVID-19, Blizzcon 2020 was the best place to learn more about Diablo 4. It was originally announced at Blizzcon 2019, which took place on November 1, but now the next BIG info drop seems tentative. Blizzard could move ahead with some new announcements, but it seems more likely that anything big takes place at Blizzconline in February 2021.

That means fans may be waiting with bated breath for more Diablo 4 news, and that’s something Blizzard ought to be aware of. Chances are, the classes of Diablo 4 are already decided, but it has likely kept an eye on its community’s desires. The company wants to do its best to avoid another Diablo Immortal disaster, after all, and while that doesn’t mean giving into fan demand, it does mean being informed by it.

Based on the above aggregate from Redditor Pisulanu, the most demanded classes become rather apparent. Diablo 4 fans seem to really want Necromancer, but because it was DLC and could be comparable to the Druid, that’s unlikely to happen. Paladin and Amazon come close o Necromancer, and incredibly close to each other in the second and third spots, while Assassin, Demon Hunter, Monk, Rogue, Warrior, Crusader, and a variety of old classes, new class ideas, and more fill in the rest of the poll.

The rationale behind these votes seem to follow a trend. For many Diablo 3 fans, the Necromancer is what turned a lot of the game around and made it the Diablo game they wanted. Meanwhile, the Amazon hasn’t been seen since Diablo 2, despite being popular enough to be considered as Diablo 3 DLC before being passed over for the Necromancer. The Paladin has some similarities with Diablo 3‘s Crusader, but both fill a special hole in fans’ hearts for the strong do-gooder.

Then, of course, the Rogue has been practically forgotten since Diablo 1 for more flavorful classes, while the Warrior falls into the same boat. However, count up the demand for the Rogue and the Warrior, they fall into the same boat as the Assassin and Demon Hunter, other popular Diablo classes.

Of course, this poll is just a small sampling, but it does show how strongly nostalgia influences fans. Including the Necromancer, the Rogue, and the Warrior alone, it’s apparent that thousands of fans want to see the return of some OG experiences. Now, whether Blizzard supplies that or goes for something new, like a genuinely evil Diablo 4 class, remains to be seen.

Some of these may not be 1-to-1 translations either, as there could be a Rogue-like class without being called Rogue. A warrior finds its home in the Barbarian too. Until Blizzard confirms these other classes, the best thing to do is wait and see what’s next for Diablo 4‘s future.

Diablo 4 is in development.
