Star Citizen Crowdfunding Has Surpassed $316 Million | Game Rant

Standing as the highest-earning video game crowdfunding project of all time, Star Citizen has had a surprisingly bumpy road to release since the start of its campaign back in 2012. Despite raising hundreds of millions of dollars, the developer behind the game has struggled to make its dream a reality, with the scale of the game shifting and concerning reports about Cloud Imperium Games burning through its funding hitting the internet.

Regardless of these concerning signs, it seems some fans still have a lot of faith in developer’s work on the massively multiplayer space-flight simulator. Due to rampant fan support, Star Citizen recently managed to hit a crazy new crowdfunding milestone, with the game now amassing over $316,000,000.

That’s an insane level of support and should do a lot for the ambitious project as it continues to push towards an as of yet unspecified release date. Seen as many have stated their concerns that the game won’t ever make it to a full-fledged release, it seems there are still a lot of Star Citizen fans left who trust the vision of the game’s creative director, Chris Roberts. Roberts even recently addressed accusations that the game’s nine-year development cycle would result in nothing, reassuring backers that the game wasn’t a “pipedream” and they would eventually get to experience it.

According to the director, the team is merely looking to make the game the best it can possibly be, citing that while a lot of internet discourse has been overtly negative about Star Citizen’s delays, the developers are far more optimistic. Of course, reports have cast a lot of shade on the game’s future, with news hitting in May last year that the studio had gone through the majority of its over 280 million dollar budget. Only recently, the team also had to delay its Squadron 42 beta for a second time, with the single-player campaign for Star Citizen originally meant to ship back in 2014.

Hopefully, the studio will be able to ship Star Citizen’s full release in the next few years, with the lengthy development time resulting in a comprehensive simulation experience. Those looking to keep up with Cloud Imperium’s work can follow the game’s roadmap, which is featured on the Star Citizen website. It will allegedly clue players into future updates about the project as well as when they can access betas and other early builds of the game. As for now though, Star Citizen’s newest milestone is sure to offer a big boost to the game’s development.
