A new trailer released for Apex Legends confirms that Season 7, titled Ascension, will include a new map, a new playable legend, and for a series first, a rideable vehicle.
The new legend for Season 7 has been known to some extent for some time now. Horizon, as she will be known, was leaked earlier this month prior to a set of challenges that were released last week that were meant to begin teasing her. After paying a visit to the Firing Range per her request, Horizon asks players to complete some mid-match challenges, which will then allow players to activate gravity lifts that are scattered across King’s Canyon and World’s Edge. The lifts themselves push players who stand on them up into the air, and presumably will be similar to the new legend’s ultimate or tactical.
Today, the official Apex Legends social media accounts shared a new Stories From the Outlands trailer that shows what happens to Horizon, also known as Dr. Mary Somers. Somers is a scientist hired to aid her home planet of Olympus in its energy crisis by journeying to the edge of the universe to look for a substance called Branthium. The trailer chronicles her journey, where she leaves her young son behind for the mission, and before getting the chance to return, she is stabbed in the back and is left for dead in the reaches of space by her assistant.
If the word Branthium rings a bell, it is because it was previously uttered by the simulacrum known as Ash, who players uncover at the end of the Season 5 quest. Simulacrums like Revenant often lived human lives before being turned into one and given the similar sounding voice and her talking about Branthium in the present, it seems that the traitorous assistant was in fact Ash pre-being turned into a Simulacrum and the story events of Titanfall 2.
As part of the trailer release, developer Respawn Entertainment also revealed what else Season 7 will include. Along with the new gravity inspired legend, Horizon, Season 7 will also include a new map based on Olympus, where she is from. Season 7 will also include a first for the game with rideable vehicles, which have previously been teased via a Season 6 unlockable gun charm called “Ride Share.”
All of this content will arrive alongside the launch of the Steam version of Apex Legends on November 4. The Steam version of the game will support cross-play with all other platforms, but will also support cross-progression with the Origin version of the game. That news prompted console players to ask if cross-progression could wind up coming to platforms like PS4 and Xbox One, to which game director Chad Grenier responded that Respawn is “very passionate about” the issue.
The announcement of the Steam release date also came alongside the more sad news that the Switch version of Apex Legends won’t be making it to fans this year, as Respawn had to delay it.
Apex Legends is available now on Origin, PS4, and Xbox One, with the Steam version launching on November 4, and the Switch version arriving some time next year.
