After several years of teasing and fan speculation, in just a couple of weeks the PS5 will be available for worldwide commercial purchase. At launch, the PS5 will feature a number of launch titles and third-party games, but all of them will be released for full retail price. Thankfully, for those who wish to save just a little bit of money, the PS5 now has one discounted title available for pre-order.
Sony announced a few weeks ago that the company would be revamping the PlayStation Store’s website. The new PlayStation Store website went live a little less than a week ago, and with the arrival of the PS5 rapidly approaching it makes sense to have the new version of the store include options for those who have already pre-ordered or are going to purchase a PS5.
Given the release of the PS5 marks the beginning of a new console generation, consumers can’t really expect much by way of discounted next-gen games. But surprisingly, the PS5 has officially received its first discounted game a little over two weeks away from its release: Hitman 3.
The PlayStation Store website currently has the deluxe edition of Hitman 3 discounted at 10 percent for the PS4 version of the game and 20 percent for the PS5 version. It should be noted that this deal is only being offered for PlayStation Plus members, but even so, 20 percent off for a PS5 game right out the gate is quite significant.
Whether this was actually intended or if it’s a mistake, nobody can tell at this point. However, all things considered, this discount is quite the deal. Given the increased price of many next-gen games has plenty in the gaming community irked, this discount puts the price of the PS5 version of the game well within the price range of a new game from the previous console generation.
In any case, it will be interesting to see if any other deals pop up before the proper release of Sony’s next-gen console. It typically takes some time before new games receive any sort of discount. For most newly released games, it takes several months before the game receives any kind of discount or price reduction. Then again, this isn’t always the case, as there have been a few exceptions in the past. For example, Death Stranding received a significant discount a few weeks after its initial release.
The PS5 is set to launch on November 12, 2020.
