Sony Delays Destruction AllStars, But It’s Not All Bad News

Sony’s next-generation console, the PlayStation 5, is set to launch in just a few weeks time on November 12. The PS5 will be launching alongside a number of titles, though it only has a couple of true exclusive games. Unfortunately, one of the PS5 exclusive launch games has been delayed to next year, though it’s not all bad news for PlayStation fans.

Destruction AllStars, the PS5 exclusive from Lucid Games, has been delayed from its planned November 12 release date to sometime in February 2021. On the bright side, Lucid Games has said that Destruction AllStars will be playable through PlayStation Plus when it launches “for two months,” though it’s unclear by the wording if this means that the game will only be free for two months, or if players will have a two month window to download it. Those that pre-ordered Destruction AllStars will be getting refunded for their purchase, so it does seem as though PS Plus subscribers will get to keep the game.

Regardless, Destruction AllStars should prove to be a big boost for PlayStation Plus on PS5. It’s one of the only true PS5 exclusive games coming in the first few months of the console’s lifespan, and so it being playable for free is a big deal. It could also be a hint at Sony’s plans for PlayStation Plus on PS5. Maybe this means Sony will only be updating the free PS Plus games on PS5 every two months, or maybe this is just a special decision specifically for Destruction AllStars.

In the meantime, those interested in Destruction AllStars should note that more information on the upcoming PS5 exclusive is coming sooner rather than later. It’s been confirmed that a new Destruction AllStars trailer is dropping at some point next week, which will come with some new details on what fans can expect from the game.

For those who haven’t been following it too closely, Destruction AllStars is a vehicular combat game, where players can choose from a variety of unique racers and vehicles to destroy their opponents’ cars. But unlike most vehicular combat games, the action in Destruction AllStars isn’t restricted to being behind the wheel. When players’ cars have been destroyed, they are actually able to continue playing on-foot and can utilize unique abilities to stay alive and keep themselves in the game.

As we’ve seen with games like Rocket League and Fall Guys, debuting something like Destruction AllStars on PS Plus could go a long way in ensuring that the game has a large community right off the bat. Whether or not the game is engaging enough to maintain that community remains to be seen, but fans will find out next year.

Destruction AllStars launches February 2021, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
