10 Wildest Video Game Theories (According To Game Theory)

The YouTube channel known as Game Theory is one of the most popular video game exploration and theory channels on the website. They started off by bringing science into the gaming world. This has not only brought on a new way to think about popular and well known games but also helps gamers realize that not everything is what it seems.

A good example of what this channel is known for can be explored through the fact that the character of Sonic is said to run at the speed of sound. MatPat from Game Theory analyzed the frame rate featured in the Sonic The Hedgehog games and came to the conclusion that Sonic is slower than Mario. That is a huge revelation as it carries strong implications for the speed at which Mario can move, but things get even crazier. Below are some of the most extreme and shocking theories from this well-known channel about some of our favourite games.

10 Joel’s Meaningless Decision

The release of The Last of Us Part 2 brought back the memories of Joel’s decision in its predecessor: should Ellie die to help cure the virus? This episode of the YouTube series focuses on that question and aims to prove why Joel’s choice to save Ellie was actually the right one.

They use information from real-world treatments to prove that the Fireflies could have attempted to stop the spread of the virus by keeping Ellie alive. Killing her was the worst possible idea they could have come up with.

9 Duck Season’s Killer’s Identity

Remember the release of Duck Season back in 2017? How about the horror of being killed by a man in a dog costume after choosing to shoot him? This episode of Game Theory focuses on the killer’s true identity and it is none other than your father. It seems like a reach at first, but MatPat has a way of showing how anything can be possible.

After revealing information that you can find while searching through areas of the game, he makes a solid case that your father is trapped inside the game cartridge and wants to murder you.

8 Animal Crossing Is A Lie

Leave it up to the members of Game Theory to ruin childhood games. Nobody ever stopped to think about the dark side of Animal Crossing. They just went about their day collecting and designing their dream town/island and paying back a that greedy Tom Nook.

Instead of accepting the norm, the Game Theorists provide a darker look into the game and how your character, the villager, is seeing everyone else as animals when they are actually human and the implications that has for our well being.

7 Tails Can’t Fly

Here is when Game Theory brings physics to the game (literally) to prove that Tails from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise can’t fly. They use helicopter physics to prove that tails wouldn’t be able to fly.

In reality, he would crash and burn just like all the times he has crashed a plane in the games. It’s a sad realization that one of the franchise’s favorite characters can’t do the one thing that he is supposed to excel at.

6 Ash’s Real Age

People have always questioned what Ash’s age is. After all, he has been 10 since the start of the series back in the ’90s. That is a long time for him to remain a ten year old. Luckily, MatPat went the extra mile to scan through every Pokemon episode to determine Ash’s real age.

It is a surprisingly long episode for the channel, but it finally answers a question that too many fans of the series and games have asked.  He may have seen Ho-Oh, but he could at least celebrate a birthday or two.

5 Minecraft’s Lost Lore

Be prepared, because Minecraft, the game that started a new revolution in gaming, actually has a story. This series of videos from the channel spans over five episodes and will fill your brain with a lot of questionable lore from the game. They delve into the history of the Wither, Builders, Villagers, and Illagers.

The videos explain so much that it is impossible to mention it all in a short paragraph. Watch the full series to get an understanding of how large a world Minecraft truly is.

4 Link Is The Strongest Character

It’s always fun to talk about which video game characters you think would win in a fight, but not many people mention Link. This episode of Game Theory throws Link into the ring as a contender for the world’s strongest video game character and they do it through the science of the golden gauntlet deadlift that is done in Ocarina of Time.

They calculate the mass of that solid pillar of stone and show that Link is nobody to laugh at. In fact, he could probably kill someone just by flicking his finger.

3 Aerith Was Meant To Die

Everyone knows that Aerith died back in the original release of Final Fantasy VII. This is old news and has been talked about for ages. The natural debate has always been why Cloud didn’t use a Pheonix Down to revive her.

Game Theory puts this debate to bed with evidence from across the Final Fantasy series to say that Aerith couldn’t have been brought back to life. She was meant to die. It is a sad day for sure to have to accept her death, but we all must move on eventually.

2 Mario Is A Murderer

Ever question what goes on in everyone’s favorite plumbers’ head? What dark secrets could there be in such a childish series? Well, let’s take the massive leap to Mario being a murderer. Game Theory made that claim back in the days of 2013 and it has since stuck as one of the craziest theories they have made.

They don’t make it sound crazy. With the massive amount of evidence showing how harsh Mario can be towards the people in his life, it’s no surprise that he could be a killer. Poor Yoshi.

1 FNAF Theories

Probably the craziest theory that the channel has presented, the FNAF Theory. Now, this is a massive theory that should be watched to fully understand. It spans far too many videos to be able to mention even a fraction of it in a paragraph. The chain of videos offers insight into the lore of FNAF.

The videos mention all the various elements of the games and how everything is connected to create a full timeline of events that have stumped tons of fans since the original game’s release.
