Of all the live service games out there right now, Destiny 2 is perhaps the most mixed for players. For every new and exciting feature or weapon in Destiny 2, there’s a disappointing change made to hand cannons.
To be fair, this is to be expected for any game that has endured as long as Destiny 2 has with its model. New content must come quickly, with devs working hard to keep players engaged. At the same time, players desperately rush to keep up with the grind that makes up Destiny 2‘s gameplay loop. Bungie does a good job of keeping its community in the loop though, typically through regular blog releases or other announcements. Sometimes this comes in the form of video announcements called ViDocs. One of those is coming up very soon.
Bungie is releasing a new ViDoc October 27 at 7AM. For those unfamiliar, a ViDoc is a concept created by Bungie, although other companies regularly do something similar. It does not stand for “video document” or “video documentary”, but is a mashup of “visual,” “informational,” and “documentation.” These have been fairly rare as of late, with one ViDoc back in 2019 covering the future of Destiny 2.
It seems very likely that this ViDoc will focus on Destiny 2, but what exactly it will be covering is anyone’s guess, though it will probably have to do with Beyond Light. There are already lots of details about weapon changes in Beyond Light, so this one may focus more on story. Players are already eagerly awaiting news of what the new expansion will bring, considering they know what it’s locking up. The official Destiny 2 Twitter community seems excited, as well.
There’s every indication that this ViDoc could be very significant for Destiny 2. Beyond Light is supposed to be a huge turning point for the game, and players are on the edge of their seats. Bungie has stated it wants to make Destiny 2 more like the first game, and this could reveal info that will solidify or shatter those efforts.
On the other hand, the ViDoc may mostly focus on something completely separate from Destiny 2. Many players would welcome news on Matter, Bungie’s new IP. Some are worried that Bungie’s dedication to Destiny 2 could detract from Matter, and this ViDoc would be a great chance to assuage those fears.
Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions in progress.
