PS5, Xbox Series X, and Series S Sizes Compared in New Images

New photos have surfaced online comparing the physical size of the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Series S. The next generation of Xbox and PlayStation systems are set to release in just a few weeks, and the hype is at an all-time high, in fact the PS5 store already has its first game discount.

The size and shape of the upcoming consoles has been one of the internet’s favorite talking points. Many gamers think the PS5 looks like a Wi-Fi router, while the new Xbox Series X looks like a mini-fridge. This includes Snoop Dogg, who was sent a literal Xbox Series X fridge from Microsoft.

These images from The Verge let gamers finally get a good look at the Sony and Microsoft systems side-by-side. Judging by the images, the PS5 easily towers over the Xbox Series X when oriented vertically. However, when placed horizontally, the PS5 actually has a thinner profile. Both consoles will need adequate ventilation to avoid heat or dust build-up regardless of orientation.

The Xbox Series X is smaller in nearly every way when compared to the PS5, the biggest console in modern history. The PS5 measures in around 15.4 inches (390mm) tall, 10.24 inches (260mm) deep, and 4.09 inches (104mm) wide. The Series X measures just 11.8 inches (301mm) tall, and 5.9 inches (151mm) wide and deep.

Aside from greatly differing aesthetically, Sony and Microsoft have taken different approaches when it comes to accessing internal components. PS5 owners will be able to easily open up the console to clean out dust and debris, as well as the ability to upgrade their SSD storage. The Xbox Series X doesn’t let owners open it up, with the only option for additional memory being through proprietary expansion cards.

The size difference is only magnified comparing the Xbox Series S to the full-size X and PS5. The Series S is only 10.8 inches (275mm) tall, 5.9 inches (151mm) wide, and 2.5 inches (63.5mm) deep, looking like a textbook next to the other two systems. Microsoft achieved this by getting rid of the disc drive and reducing the size of the GPU. The PS5 Digital Edition, comparable to Series S is noticeably absent from the images. Regardless of which platform players choose, they can expect plenty of enhancements for their upcoming games.

It will be exciting to see the public reception once gamers get their hands on the latest and greatest consoles. Speaking of new systems, rumors continue to flood the internet regarding a Nintendo Switch Pro Model, but Nintendo has yet to officially confirm anything.

Xbox Series X and S launch November 10, while the PS5 releases on November 12.
