Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Netflix Series Shows New Images of Leon and Claire

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness is the next project in an ongoing line of CGI Resident Evil content, with the latest animated adventure set to focus on popular protagonists Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield. Despite its arrival set for some time in 2021, Netflix has released two new images for Infinite Darkness that spotlight the beloved heroes.

Though most details on the project have been kept quiet by the streaming service, a recent tweet from Netflix regarding the series reiterates its release date and confirms that Infinite Darkness is canon within the RE game universe. The same tweet shows off new images for the “pair of veteran zombie slayers” that the Resident Evil show is centered on as well.

Leon and Claire each get an image to themselves, with their outfits looking similar to what one would expect if they appeared in a game. Leon is wearing an outfit much like in Resident Evil 6 and the other animated projects, with his classic haircut returning as well. As for Claire, her hairstyle is similar to other appearances as well, with the character wearing her iconic red jacket from her first appearance in Resident Evil 2. While there are plenty of RE characters fans want to see in Infinite Darkness, it is exciting to see that these two fan favorite protagonists will be getting more time to shine.

Little is known about the series aside from the involvement of Claire and Leon, however. Though Infinite Darkness is “in the canon of” Capcom’s RE series, when the show will take place in the timeline remains unclear. Though the show could take place at many points in the series’ history, fans may want to lower their hopes regarding a Jill Valentine appearance. For whatever reason, Capcom seems unwilling to use the character, as the last mention of Jill was about her being in recovery after the events of RE5.

Infinite Darkness is not the only Netflix project in the works for Resident Evil, as a live action series centered on Wesker’s children is in development as well. The original characters will have their story told in New Raccoon city, with the sisters’ names rumored to be Jade and Billie Wesker. Another possible live action RE project that would see the return of Milla Jovovich’s Alice has also been talked about for Netflix, though nothing has been said regarding the movie continuation for some time.

With Chris Redfield getting time to shine in the games via his return in Resident Evil 8, it is nice to see that Leon and Claire have not been forgotten by Capcom. Hopefully, details regarding the story and timeline placement of the Netflix series are released soon as well.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness releases in 2021 on Netflix.
