Call of Duty players are no strangers to accidental weapons. Plenty of dataminers and glitch-users have discovered weapon models that appeared in the game files but weren’t available for players. The guns are often added later into the game in one of the big season updates, but not always. With The Haunting of Verdansk Halloween event live, it seems fitting that a player discovers a hidden treat now rather than later.
One Call of Duty: Modern Warfare player seems to have stumbled across a gun that isn’t available to players. In a case of perfect perception, it seems that there is a way to get a hidden pistol in the game if the player has a keen eye. All of this comes down to being familiar with other Call of Duty: Modern Warfare guns.
The gun itself is the Makarov, a famous pistol from earlier Black Ops games. The gamer was playing offline with AI enemies and happened to notice that one was using a pistol that looked different from the others in the game. Once the enemy was killed, the pistol fell to the ground like any weapon. The appearance and name both resembled that of the Renetti pistol but became the Makarov when equipped. This is far from the strangest thing found in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but there is definitely an air of mystery around this discovery.
This is not the first time that a gun has been discovered by a player. The As-Val is a good example since it was datamined and revealed a few weeks before officially being added to the game. The R700 sniper rifle was also teased by players ahead of its actual release. Players aren’t sure if this pistol has been there since the game launched or if it is a new addition from the Season 6 Content update, so it is hard to tell if this is something that will be officially added into the game.
The Makarov pistol looks to be nearly completed in terms of design. It has a unique reload animation, an inspection animation, and the recoil and balancing match up with the actual gun. Many weapons are added to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in the middle of the season, so this could likely be one of those.
Hopefully, players will get a chance to stroll down Black Ops memory lane with this pistol before Black Ops becomes more than a memory in a few weeks. Many players who want to stay with this game when the new one releases are worried about the life cycle of Modern Warfare. From server issues to bugs galore, this entry has been far from perfect. Fans asking for permanent Modern Warfare playlists are a perfect example that, with the right fanbase, any game can continue well past its lifespan.
