Stargirl Casts Two Main DC Villains For Next Season | Game Rant

The CW’s Stargirl has cast Nick Taraby and Jonathan Cake in the respective roles of Eclipso and The Shade, the two main antagonists of the second season. Furthermore, Ysa Penarejo will join the cast of the series in the recurring role of an undisclosed DC character.

The arrival of The Shade was first hinted at during a sequence in the first season finale of Stargirl, in which the DC villain was shown sitting alone in the Injustice Society of America’s meeting room. Eclipso’s debut was teased in the following scene, when Cindy, the daughter of a former Injustice Society member, discovers a diamond-shaped crystal containing the evil entity.

Deadline reports Cindy’s decision to steal the diamond will cause problems for Stargirl and the new Justice Society of America in the second season of the series. Much like his comic book counterpart, Eclipso is the embodiment of corruption and vengeance who feeds off the dark side of humanity and exploits the flaws of his victims. Meanwhile, Cake’s incarnation of The Shade appears to be based on the morally ambiguous Victorian-era version of the character from the comics. Per the outlet’s description, The Shade will use witticisms and apathy to mask the pain of losing loved ones and experiencing countless horrors over a lifetime as an immortal.

Based on the DC Comics characters Geoff Johns co-created as a tribute to his late sister, Stargirl centers on Brec Bassinger’s Courtney Whitmore after she discovers Starman’s Cosmic Staff and learns that her stepfather, Pat Dugan, used to be the hero’s sidekick. Taking on the identity of Stargirl and joining the Justice Society of America, Whitmore becomes the inspiration for a brand new generation of heroes. While the first season of Stargirl debuted new episodes on DC Universe before airing them on The CW on the following day, the broadcast network will be the exclusive home of the series for its second season.

DC Universe will now become a digital comics subscription under the name DC Universe Infinite starting in January 2021. The remaining original shows from the streaming service, including Titans and Doom Patrol, will now become HBO Max exclusives.

Production on the second season of Stargirl will begin by the end of October, barring any complications presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the later start dates for The CW’s superhero shows means they will not air until next year.

Stargirl season 2 will premiere on The CW in 2021.
