Once again, Nintendo has pulled another surprise Direct Presentation filled with much-needed information on some of the upcoming games on the Nintendo Switch. One of the upcoming titles that was unveiled in today’s Nintendo Direct is Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, which is set to release on February 25, 2021, in Japan, and March 23 in North America and Europe.
During the presentation, players were given a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming farming simulator game, which could rival the popularity of other similar titles, such as Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Like previous Story of Seasons games, Pioneers of Olive Town will put players in the role of a farmer whose main task is to grow crops, tend to animals, and socialize with the townspeople. At the moment, the story of Pioneers of Olive Town remains unclear, but just from the trailer alone, players should expect the classic Story of Seasons experience.
Apart from the usual farming duties, players can also embark on various activities such as improving the infrastructure in Olive Town, create unique outfits, commission accessories, and even participate in over 200 events. According to the game’s listing on the Nintendo eShop, Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town will feature two modes called Seedling and Normal Mode. The former is for beginners who may need a little bit of help settling in their new duties as farmers, while the latter is for veteran Story of Seasons players.
The announcement of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town was made just a few months after the release of Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town, a remake of the 2003 Harvest Moon game of the same name. Judging by the gameplay footage shown at the latest Nintendo Direct, it appears that Pioneers of Olive Town will be adapting the same art-style as Friends of Mineral Town, which features chibi-style characters that adds a unique charm to the game.
Apart from Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, the latest Nintendo Direct also revealed that Control: Ultimate Edition is now available on the Switch today, but it is worth noting that Control will be released via cloud gaming similar to how Nintendo launched Resident Evil 7 on the Switch in Japan. Additionally, Nintendo also revealed the long-awaited release date of Bravely Default 2, which will be released on the Switch in February 2021.
Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town is set to release on March 23, 2021, exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.
