The next generation of gaming is nearing fans every day and one of the most anticipated titles is the remake of the brutally punishing cult classic, Demon’s Souls. The remake of Demon’s Souls will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, much like its original entry was exclusive to PS3.
The Souls series is known for its punishing gameplay where one missed sword-strike or ill timed dodge will result in death for the player. Taking inspiration from dark fantasy, the Souls series has cemented its foothold into the world of gaming as an incredibly rewarding series with some of gaming’s most iconic boss fights.
The remake, which has reportedly gone gold, will introduce a new generation to the game responsible for bringing the Souls series to the West. While the original didn’t see much success in its homeland of Japan, Western audiences praised the difficult and addicting gameplay, resulting in several awards and a sister series, Dark Souls, and a spiritual successor, Bloodborne. Needless to say, the series is one of gaming’s favorite ways to punish themselves.
While the remake is confirmed to bring forth new weapons, armor, and rings, as well as improved drop rates, the remake also guarantees to have everything the original had to offer. One such returning feature is the ability to use the original game’s camera feature. The original Demon’s Souls had the camera centered directly behind the player character in order to provide extra tension to the terrifying worlds players would explore. The remake however, has a default over the shoulder camera which gives a more cinematic feel to the game.
Both camera options have their pros and cons. The original camera feels more familiar and some players might find it easier to play the game with their character and enemies focused on where they’re used to seeing them, while the new camera is slightly zoomed in and gives players a better look at what’s close up. In short, the original camera is a familiar experience while the new one gives players a better look at this must-have game’s impressive visuals.
However, the original camera did have a few setbacks as it had the tendency to stick on objects or go through walls, while the new camera might make it hard to see what’s waiting for the player up ahead. The atmosphere to Demon’s Souls is incredibly important and it’s an absolute positive that players will have the option of which camera they want to use. Old or new, players should have no trouble finding an option that is comfortable for them while they compare the two versions of Demon’s Souls.
Demon’s Souls releases on the PlayStation 5 on November 12, 2020.
