The next-generation consoles are only a month away from release, and many new games have been revealed in the past few weeks. Now, a new gameplay video reveals that the racing game WRC 9: World Rally Championship will be a launch title for the PlayStation 5 this November.
WRC 9 is the latest installment in the World Rally Championship series, developed by the French developer Kylotonn, or KT Racing, and published by Nacon this past September. Various major features included WRC 9’s realistic car physics, impressive weather effects, and map selection, which went a long way to distinguish it from other racing games. The new video shows off what the game will look like on the upcoming PS5.
The gameplay video for WRC 9 shows the game running on 60 FPS with 4K resolution on the PS5, similar to most games launching on the next-generation console. The video doesn’t go into too much detail and only shows off the core driving to be expected from the game. However, the gameplay footage shown is captured straight from a PS5 build of the game.
The video starts off previewing the gameplay through three different cars that each showcase a new location and time of day. The first shows off a coastal area at dawn, the second a small Midwestern town in the daytime, and the third in a more rocky open area full of cheering crowds and sponsor signs. The video displays the game’s changing camera angles as it switches between the third-person and first-person perspectives while the cars are driving. The car racing itself is quite tame and controlled while each car drives through their locations, compared to Dirt 5’s racing gameplay.
The gameplay video concludes by reminding that WRC 9 will be coming to the PS5 at launch and will even be available on the Xbox Series X/S and the Nintendo Switch. When the PS5 version launches, it will enhance the core gameplay and will have the content from the October Blind Jumps update. This includes six new stages for Rally Finland, a new WRC driver as well as a Photo Mode. KT Racing stated that the game will be capitalizing on the PS5 DualSense Controller‘s haptic features to further evolve the car racing experience.
Players who already own WRC 9 for the PS4 will receive a free upgrade for the PS5 version. With only one month away before the next-gen console release, players won’t have to wait too long before they’re able to play WRC 9 on the PS5.
WRC 9 is available on the Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One with versions for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.
