Call of Duty Zombies Maps That Would Be Perfect for Black Ops Cold War

Among other major changes coming to the game, Zombies may be seeing a major overhaul in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War this November. Judging from the trailers that’s been shown off so far, Zombies seems to be mixing a ton of old and new influences this time around. Gone are most of the overtly complex systems in more recent iterations in favor of traditional Perks and Pack-a-Punch making their return. The “Nacht der Untoten” map is also making a return, except this time fully remade into a much larger Zombies map that’s implementing some interesting new ideas as well.

Alongside returning maps like “Nacht der Untoten” (remade as “Die Machine” in Cold War) and “Dead Ops Arcade,” there’s been a few other rumored Zombies maps planned to return in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. In fact, there’s a whole backlog of fantastic Zombies maps that could use a remake/remaster in 2020. Since Black Ops Cold War‘s Zombies mode is bringing back a ton of returning features like the old Perk-A-Cola machines, several of the classic maps would transfer quite well into 2020’s Call of Duty. Here’s a selection of some of the best Zombies maps that deserve to return in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Zombies mode in the future.

This particular map has been rumored for quite a while, even before Black Ops Cold War was officially announced. Rumors of a TranZit remake for this year’s Call of Duty made the rounds as early as May of this year, stating that multiple old and new Zombies maps were joining the at-the-time unannounced Black Ops Cold War. This particular map would be perfect for a return, as it was one of the last maps that both innovated and improved Zombies.

Other than gripes about the map’s size, TranZit had a lot of potential for long Zombies sessions with more gameplay variety. Plus, with the re-inclusion of the legacy perks instead of a more complicated loadout system, the experience matches up perfectly with Black Ops 2‘s iteration of Zombies, so it’s the perfect opportunity. TranZit still remains one of the most unique Zombies maps ever added to Call of Duty previously.

Before sending the original Zombies crew to the Moon, there was another Zombies map that was just as outlandish in a different way. Injecting an all-star cast of horror film and TV stars together, such as the ever talented gaming enthusiast Danny Trejo, Call of the Dead quite literally infused some more George Romero into Black Ops‘ Zombies mode. Acting as this map’s boss character, George Romero is an ever-present threat that follows players around the map alongside the harassing Zombies. Players can beat Romero temporarily, but he still respawns on random rounds to continually bother the players on the map.

Call of the Dead was a strangely exciting diversion from the usual Zombies characters, and while it’s certainly not the most enticing map itself, the characters are just as over-the-top and exciting as classic horror/zombies movies.

For Black Ops‘ version of Zombies, Kino der Toten was the basic foundation that kicked off everything after it. It’s certainly not the best map in the series, but the layout and the mini-games in Kino are still incredibly strong for being the base Zombies map. Nothing was too complicated or that too obscure, in fact Kino remained closest to the beginning of the coop mode with Nazi Zombies in Germany specifically. Kino condenses the Zombies offering into a succinct package of traditional perks and Pack-a-Punch. Kino’s map layout and perk selection is just right, and with enough space and strategy, players could survive for the long haul on that map. Even now, considering Nacht der Untoten is being remade into a new version, Kino der Toten deserves the same treatment.

Of the many Zombies maps to come out, Der Riese has easily become one of the most popular maps for Zombies in the whole series. Especially considering a version of Der Riese has appeared in three different Call of Duty games, what’s one more? Introduced all the way back in World at War, Der Riese’s map design has become so universally praised because of its intelligent layout and introduction of upgradeable weapons with Pack-a-Punch. This map has an area for every kind of Zombies player; those who are aggressive and train zombies in paths, or for those who are willing to hunker down and cover certain choke points with a strong defense. Either way, Der Riese accommodates for some of the best Zombies gameplay in the series period, and deserves even more love in Black Ops Cold War.

Obviously there’s likely a few new Zombies experiences still on the horizon, more than just a remake of Nacht, but a completely new world in the Zombies timeline. It’ll likely be a while before any fans hear about it, but in a while Black Ops Cold War will still eventually get new Zombies modes and maps, just as much as existing maps. Already, Black Ops Cold War‘s Zombies mode is showing great promise and a lot of room for innovation, but fans will just have to wait and see until then.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War releases on November 13, 2020, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
