Diablo 3’s Necromancer May Be Proof That Diablo 4 Will Include Amazon at Launch

Blizzard fans have a ton of questions about Diablo 4, none of which are likely to be answered before Blizzconline in early 2021. One of the biggest questions, of course, is what two other classes could fill the Diablo 4 launch class roster.

Interestingly enough, this may have been answered already. The fan-demanded Necromancer Diablo class hasn’t been confirmed for the new game, but it was added as DLC to Diablo 3 in 2017. At Blizzcon 2016, this was discussed to some length, and there’s one interesting remark that may have aged quite well, indicating the return of the Amazon for the upcoming entry in the franchise.

The Diablo 3: Rise of the Necromancer DLC was revealed at Blizzcon 2016, announcing the return of the fan-favorite class. One question taken during the Q&A was about what fans could have gotten instead of the necromancer, specifically stating, “what other character you were thinking about putting into the other than the Necro?” Interestingly, the answer listed two very important classes:

Druids were popular in the office, Amazon etc. I think we feel nostalgic for the Necromancer and seemed like the right guy for this year.

“For this year” could imply some unforetold foresight, but regardless, the real evidence lies in the mention of the Druid and the Amazon. In other words, while considering which class to bring back, there was some portion of the developer that wanted one of these two classes to return in Diablo 3. While they did not, the Druid is already confirmed as one of Diablo 4‘s launch classes, and the Amazon may very well be confirmed soon. After all, the developers who pushed for these classes may be working on this new sequel, and at least one of them is there. Combine this with the available niches in Diablo 4, and it’s the perfect ground for the Amazon.

Thus far, Diablo 4 has a melee combatant in the form of the Barbarian, as well as spellcasters in the form of the Druid and Sorcerer. What it doesn’t have is a dexterity-based, ranged class, and the Amazon excels at the use of bows, spears, and javelins. Just as the Necromancer is somewhat ousted as a particular niche that is mostly filled, the Amazon is the perfect class to add to the Diablo 4 roster. Sure, there are some challengers to the Amazon in this role, but if the developer considered both the Amazon and Druid before and one is confirmed, it seems unlikely that the other is far behind.

Diablo 4 is in development, with its currently confirmed platforms being PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
