Recently, Nintendo released a demo of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity for the Nintendo Switch, offering players a taste of what Age of Calamity will be about and what the combat will be like when fighting against hordes of enemies. While the general reception of the demo has been positive, one big issue that players have noticed was the dropping frame rate at various points during gameplay, particularly the combat aspect.
As pointed out by several tests that seek to examine frame rate, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is aiming to keep the frame rate at about 30fps. However, according to the conducted tests, the demo for Hyrule Warriors would drop down to as low as 20fps from time to time, meaning that it would fluctuate on occasion. Furthermore, the frame rate issue was brought up by a number of fans across social media websites who collectively agreed that the low frame rate is noticeable and that hopefully, there is going to be a fix in the near future.
Another issue that some of the players were able to bring up was the demo’s resolution. According to their reports, some parts in Age of Calamity, whether the game’s demo was in docked mode or portable mode, were blurry while having medium to low resolution to them. On the contrary though, the biggest point where the frame rate and resolution would suffer would be at the beginning of Age of Calamity‘s demo, during the opening mission. Afterwards, the demo would perform somewhat better but still suffer from resolution issues.
One possible explanation could be the intense sequences during Age of Calamity‘s gameplay are the causing frame rate and resolution issues. For instance, sequences where a lot is happening in terms of combat and the gameplay becomes extremely intense, the frame rate drops down to 20fps (sometimes a little bit lower) before stabilizing and going back up to 30fps. During sequences where there aren’t too many enemies and when players aren’t fighting them, the frame rate seems to be stable enough to be around 30fps.
With Age of Calamity set to release for the Nintendo Switch next month, there is still some hope that the frame rate issues will be fixed before the game comes out. On the other hand, the developers will have to implement a fix via a Day 1 patch or even some time later after the game comes out. Ultimately though, with so many players bringing up the frame rate issue, it should be enough for Nintendo to take notice and hopefully do something.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity comes out on November 20 for the Nintendo Switch.
