Among Us has certainly been a huge sleeper hit this year, being released back in 2018, but not finding major success until this year. The social game, which pits crewmates against murderous imposters, has received a considerable amount of mainstream attention, with dressing up as a crewmate/imposter becoming one of the most prominent ideas for a Halloween costume.
While the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has made the tradition of trick-or-treating unsafe and not worthwhile, dressing up as various parts of the zeitgeist is still in fashion. Many celebrities have rocked impressive costumes using their time and substantial resources, including rapper Big Sean unleashing his inner Among Us imposter.
Big Sean, real name Sean Anderson, posted on his Instagram photos of him and his partner, singer Jhené Aiko dressed as crewmates/imposters with their usernames being “Big Don” and “AikoAiko” respectively. The Detroit rapper even hits us with his best manipulative move, captioning the post “I saw yellow venting, Sus.” There have been many fashion interpretations of Among Us, with Big Sean and Aiko going for reflective goggles and fully-protective jumpsuits with plenty of pockets, possibly to hold whatever weapons they use as imposters.
Other celebrities have also dressed up as video game characters for Halloween. Besides Big Sean and Jhené Aiko, model Gigi Hadid dressed up as Samus Aran from the Metroid series, rocking the iconic Zero Suit.
Big Sean and Jhené Aiko are not the only celebrities that have backstabbed each other and their friends on Among Us; congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hosted her first Twitch stream of her playing the game a few weeks ago. The stream, which featured fellow congresswoman Ilhan Omar and streamers Pokimane, DrLupo, and Disguised Toast, peaked at over 450,000 viewers and featured AOC and Omar quickly learning the intricacies of the game in between the two Democratic congresswomen encouraging Americans to get out and vote in the upcoming election.
Back in September, Big Sean released his fifth studio album Detroit 2. The album serves as the sequel to his 2012 mixtape Detroit and features the likes of Eminem, Travis Scott, and Post Malone. Detroit 2 debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 103,000 album-equivalent units (including 30,000 pure album sales), making it Big Sean’s third number-one album. In a Reddit AMA, Big Sean revealed that a collaborative album with Jhené Aiko under the duo Twenty88 is in the works and that he is planning to launch his own record label.
