Set in the near future, Detroit: Become Human explores a unique, technologically advanced world in which androids exist to serve humans as servants. Holding many minimum wage jobs, androids are essentially responsible for keeping the world running smoothly. They have no choice but to obey…or do they?

Putting the story into the player’s capable (or maybe not so capable) hands, nearly every choice made affects the storyline. Playing as Connor, Kara, and Markus, all of their actions contribute to their earned ending. Though there are over 40 possible ends, there are a few choices that are decidedly good, and a few that fans should avoid. Some of these are specific, and some are more general, as the player weaves their own story and creates the characters’ individual attitudes and hones relationships over time.
10 Best: Buy Hank A Drink
In Chapter 6, Connor finds Hank drunk in a bar, and asks him to accompany him to a crime scene. The player gets the option of buying him a drink, spilling his drink, or going outside to wait for him to finish. Buy Hank the drink. This helps to humanize Connor in the grumpy, android-hating Hank’s eyes. Any other choice made will cause Hank’s suspicions to be justified and he will dislike Connor even more.
9 Worst: Fail To Reconstruct The Crimes
Though the outcome of the first scene with the deviant is irrelevant, it does teach the player to make sure to fully analyze the crime scene for clues. This helps Connor to to make the “right” decisions for favorable outcomes.
Throughout the game, Connor analyzes various scenes with Hank and solves what happened. If Connor continues to fail to properly put together the clues, the company can have him shut down.
8 Best: Be Hank’s Friend
This is one of the situations where it is a series of choices more than a single press of a button. The player can easily choose to upset, ignore, or fight their reluctant partnership with Hank every step of the way. It’s very important to befriend your partner. If Hank is not protected and a bond is not formed between the two characters, Hank can kill himself near the end of the game.
7 Worst: Let Connor Die (Repeatedly)
There are multiple times Connor can die or get decommissioned by CyberLife. Unless fans are trophy hunters looking to unlock the Terminator referencing “I’ll Be Back” trophy (achieved by dying eight times consecutively), it’s not the best idea to let Connor die over and over. This can result in an early end to his story, and potentially an early end to the entire game if the player allows the other characters’ die early on as well.
6 Best: Find The Picture Of Hank’s Son
In the chapter “Russian Roulette”, Connor goes to Hank’s house. The player must break a window in order to save Hank when he sees the man passed out with a gun and bottle of liquor. It is important to look around his home and find the photo of Hank’s son.
Having this information about his son can help to save Connor’s life in “The Bridge” when Hank threatens him. The player should take all opportunities to learn about Hank in every Connor chapter (such as searching his desk) to know how to best earn his trust.
5 Worst: Lose Hank’s Trust
Hank starts the game despising androids and everything that androids stand for in this world. He is openly prejudiced and does not want to work with Connor. This makes it easy for the player to choose options that further deteriorates the already tentative relationship. Be there for Hank. Attempt to relate to him. The player may be compelled to disagree with Hank and that is okay. Hank isn’t always right. Still, it is important for a happier ending for the player’s goal to be to cultivate a strong relationship with him.
4 Best: Find The Deviant At The Eden Club
If a player hasn’t done well gaining Hank’s trust as an investigator (and as an android), players should make sure that they do not fail the mission at the Eden Club. Connor gets the opportunity to go after runaway deviants. If Connor previously failed other missions at crime scenes with Hank, it is more likely that Hank will not trust him. This may can cause him to shoot him in the chapter titled “The Bridge”.
3 Worst: Push The Deviant Interrogation Too Far
In “Public Enemy”, there are a few opportunities for a player to slip up. Choices made may get Connor killed or shut down. After investigating at the Stratford Tower, Connor is able to interrogate a group of deviants in the broadcast room. One is particularly suspicious.
It is tempting to get angry and to push the deviant to give up the information. If pushed too far, it ends with the deviant killing both himself and Connor. On the other hand, if Connor runs out of time, he will be shut down.
2 Best: Choose To Go Deviant
During the “Crossroads” chapter, Connor can decide whether to go deviant or not. He will only get this option if the player has made certain choices in the past. This includes choosing not to kill Chloe, letting the Traci escape at Eden, and saving Hank’s life. If the player chooses to remain a machine, then Connor may get the opportunity to kill Markus.
1 Worst: Kill Chloe
Kamski promises to tell Connor and Hank everything that he wants to know if shoot Chloe. If Connor shoots the innocent android, Kamski will not tell him everything that he promised, and Hank will lose trust in Connor. If he saves Chloe, Connor will doubt himself and consider whether the act makes him a deviant. Despite his self-doubt, Hank clearly respects his choice as they leave.
