Fortnite Details PS5, Xbox Series X Improvements and Bonuses

Next-generation Fortnite gamers can expect a number of improvements and bonuses when they boot up the game on their brand new Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5.

Epic Games has explained how a next-gen version of Fortnite will be ready for gamers to download once they have set up their new consoles, promising that the Fortnite builds on Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 aren’t “simply tweaked last-gen builds.” Instead, gamers will experience a version of the game that has been developed specifically to harness the true power of the next-generation hardware.

Fortnite players will be able to easily jump back in and continue their progress with these next-gen versions of the game, with Epic Games noting how it’s also a “great time to jump in” for those curious about trying it for the first time, even if it’s just to take a gander at Joe Biden’s custom map.

Epic Games promises that Xbox Series X/S owners can experience the popular Battle Royale game with 4K resolution at 60 FPS on the Xbox Series X. It also promised a “more dynamic and interactive world,” which will feature on the Series X version of Microsoft’s consoles. This means Fortnite players can enjoy trees responding to explosions, enhanced fluid simulations for smoke and liquid, and all-new Storm and cloud effects in-game.

Xbox Series S owners will also be benefitting from next-generation upgrades. Fortnite can be enjoyed at 1080P at 60 FPS and will also support “most of the visual enhancements” that will be available on the Xbox Series X. Additionally, Fortnite players will be able to get into matches faster thanks to quicker loading performance and even an enhanced split-screen mode, which also supports 60 FPS.

Fortnite on PlayStation 5, meanwhile, will be available for US Sony fans from Nov. 12. Much like the Xbox Series X/S upgrades, PlayStation 5 fans will be able to enjoy the game running 4K at 60 FPS. PlayStation 5 owners will also benefit from the same Dynamic Visuals and Physics in the game, faster load times, and the same enhanced split-screen mode present on Microsoft’s consoles.

However, there are some PlayStation 5 specific upgrades incorporated into the console’s DualSense Controller. Haptic feedback “makes it feel like you’re holding the Suppressed SMG or Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle,” with Epic Games adding how, alongside general vibration support, it has integrated haptic trigger feedback for several ranged weapons. Additionally, PlayStation Fortnite gamers can quickly load up their favorite modes directly from the PlayStation 5 Home Screen, giving them the ability to jump straight into the Battle Royale lobby with either Solo, Duos, or Squads selected.

Crossplay remains available regardless of a gamer’s chosen console, and, crucially, all progression and cosmetics carry over to the new platforms as players prepare for what could be one of the game’s biggest events ever. In honor of “remembering the past while looking to the future,” Epic Games has also provided a free Throwback Axe Pickaxe as an additional bonus based on the default Pickaxe from Fortnite Chapter 1. Gamers can pick up the freebie from Nov. 4 through to Jan. 15, 2021.

Fortnite is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It releases on the Xbox X/S on Nov. 10 and PlayStation 5 on Nov. 12.
