Fortnite has enjoyed an extremely successful partnership with Marvel, providing players a chance to earn skins of their favorite characters. Now, Epic has pulled back the curtain on another iconic character coming to the game in its Marvel Knockout Super Series.
The announcement of the Ghost Rider Cup features a first look at the Ghost Rider skin, which appears to be based on the iconic, Johnny Blaze incarnation of the character. Fornite has accrued an impressive collection of X-Men, Avengers, and Defenders over the course of Season 4, including characters such as Black Panther, Wolverine, Storm, and Groot. Dedicated players will likely be eager to round out their collection with the perdition-bound motorcyclist.
Fortnite recently hinted that Ghost Rider would be the next Knockout Super Series character, though the event is likely arriving sooner than anticipated, kicking off on November 4th. Like the preceding Super Series cup, the limited-time game mode will feature trios of super-powered players shooting things out over four rounds. Players will have to place high if they want to secure the Ghost Rider skin, however.
The Ghost Rider Cup is only the beginning of the battle royale game’s superhero-themed brawls slated for November. In October, Fortnite kicked off its first Super Series cup featuring Daredevil, but two more Marvel Knockout Super Series’ cups will follow the Ghost Rider event in November, though there is no clue as to what characters will be featured at this time. The final cup will arrive on November 21st, culminating in a tournament with a one million dollar prize.
This tournament will likely closely coincide with the arrival of the planet-eating, super-threat Galactus, who can already be spotted flying in the game’s sky. The big event is a fitting send-off for the Marvel-themed happening that has defined Fortnite‘s fourth season, scheduled to conclude on November 30th.
Compared to Marvel megastars like Wolverine, Spider-Man, and The Avengers, Ghost Rider is somewhat under-represented in video games. Even though Ghost Rider is a deep character with intriguing lore, and powers that readily lend themselves to fun gameplay, he’s only appeared in a few titles. The character has had a handful of cameos, and spots on the large rosters of the original Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, but his only leading role has been in the tie-in game for the 2007 Nicholas Cage film.
Players who aren’t into super-heroics but hungry for more swag may want to keep an eye on another Fortnite event that is fast approaching. Lachlan’s Pickaxe Frenzy tournament will hit the game on November 8th, giving players the opportunity to snag Lachlan’s Cosmetic Set before it becomes available in the game’s shop.
Fortnite is available now on Android, PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One, with next-gen console releases in development.
