There’s a new animated comedy heading to FOX next year, this time from Loren Bouchard, one of the creators of Bob’s Burgers and Central Park. Yet another half-hour comedy show for the “Animation Domination” line up, The Great North features Nick Offerman as a single father doing his best with a strange bunch of kids. A recent teaser for the show was posted by FOX, offering a brief glimpse into the style and energy of the upcoming project.
Those familiar with Bob’s Burgers will likely find the show to look very familiar, as it seems to pull heavily from Bouchard’s previous work. Similarly the brief glimpse offered by the teaser video portrays a TV show with the same wacky but sentimental energy of the Belcher family. The locales are a little different however, as The Great North takes place in Alaska where the Tobin family runs a fishing boat business, which clashes with the more artistic desires of the family’s only daughter.
The Great North comes some time after the launch of Bouchard’s other series Central Park, which released to strong reviews on Apple TV+. This new show has a similar strong voice cast, featuring the aforementioned Nick Offerman as the family patriarch, as well as Jenny Slate, Will Forte, Megan Mullally, and even Alanis Morrissette who will be appearing in the show as herself. Hopefully the experience and talent of the voice cast, along with the legacy of the creator will give the show a really great first impression when it finally hits FOX.
It seems as though the off-beat humor of Bouchard’s other shows is coming back in full force. Of the first four episodes or so, some of the titles include phrases like “Avocado Barter Adventure” and “Romantic Meat-Based Adventure.” Originally ordered in 2019, FOX has already renewed the show for a second season in advance of its premiere on television. This means that fans of Bob’s Burgers and Central Park can invest in this new show already knowing there is more to come. Hopefully it lives up to expectations when it finally hits FOX next year.
The Great North will premiere on FOX in February of 2021.
