Pikmin 3 Deluxe: How to Throw Your Partner | Game Rant

Pikmin 3 Deluxe is now available on the Nintendo Switch, giving Switch fans the chance to try the Wii U classic. The Switch version of Pikmin 3 Deluxe includes some noticeable upgrades when compared to the original release, including the addition of a brand new local co-op mode. And while many Pikmin 3 Deluxe reviews have praised the game’s implementation of local co-op, it does make some aspects of the adventure more confusing than it was in the original, like the ability throwing one’s partner.

In Pikmin 3 Deluxe, players will occasionally need to throw their fellow explorers to otherwise inaccessible areas, which in turn allows them to continue on, finding new fruit and opening new paths. In the original game, throwing one’s partner was a simple matter of switching over to them with the bumpers and then throwing them where they needed to go. That’s still true in Pikmin 3 Deluxe; as long as they’re in one’s group, players should have no trouble throwing their partners. The issue comes about when trying to throw a local co-op partner.

To throw a local co-op partner in Pikmin 3 Deluxe, players will want to be standing close to them. They then need to hold in the Y button, which brings up a radial menu that allows players to switch characters, call for Pikmin, and more. The right-most option on this menu should be a golden flag symbol, and clicking on that will temporarily disable the game’s split-screen view, adding the character the local co-op player was controlling to one’s group.

From there, it’s as simple as throwing the character to where they need to go, just like one would normally do. After they land, the game will automatically switch back to split-screen mode, and players can continue on their Pikmin 3 Deluxe adventures. There’s a few more steps required, but being able to play Pikmin 3 Deluxe in local co-op will likely trump any inconvenience this causes for many players.

Throwing other players will primarily need to be done during Pikmin 3 Deluxe‘s story mode, but players are able to play in local co-op in the game’s other modes as well. This includes the new Side Story content starring Captain Olimar and Louie, as well as the various missions that players can complete to their spot on the online leaderboards. A versus multiplayer mode, Bingo Battle, is available as well, but fans don’t have to worry about throwing each other while playing that.

Pikmin 3 Deluxe is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
