Famous female Twitch streamer Pokimane is incredibly successful and one of the biggest female streamers in the world. But despite – or perhaps because of – her popularity, she’s made an announcement on Twitter that she is limiting the amount for donations on her streams that viewers could give.
Pokimane’s 2020 has been filled with ups and downs. From her signing a multi-year deal with Twitch to having a fellow streamer banned for bullying her, Pokimane, real name Imane Anys, has continued to be incredibly popular. After a brief hiatus this year that kept Pokimane from streaming because of burnout, she returned and has enjoyed even more success. So much so that she doesn’t need much from the viewers that watch her anymore.
Pokimane has worked with the Twitch addon StreamLabs to limit donations to just $5 during her streams per user. The donation cap was put into place to encourage those who want to give more to “please support growing channels, charities, and to treat yourselves.” Between her 6-million-viewer fanbase, Pokimane’s multi-year deal with Twitch, and the success of her YouTube channel, Pokimane is not hurting for cash.
Pokimane has recently made headlines for donating large amounts of money to smaller Twitch streamers and charities, totaling to a jaw-dropping amount of money. Between her viewers on YouTube generating money from views, her Twitch donations, her sponsorship deals and sponsored streams, and her contract, Pokimane is estimated to be worth over $3 million. And that total keeps growing. Although some streamers would see this as motivation to continue to pile up cash for the future, Pokimane has decided to limit contributions instead.
Even with all her generosity, like Pokimane’s donation to UC Irvine for eSports, she’s still raking in the dough. She averages about 16,000 views per stream, which means even with the cap she could nab up to $80,000 per stream. And that’s just the donations from StreamLabs that she’s limited.
Fans can still cheer with Twitch Bits on her channel, which could add up to even more revenue. While it might seem like a bad business move for the streamer, the $5 StreamLabs limit will most likely not affect her bottom line at all.
And Pokimane’s popularity just seems to continue rising. And with it, the money she earns from continuing to play both Fortnite and League of Legends live on Twitch, although she does take a break from her main games on occasion, like when she was recently killed in Among Us by Congresswoman AOC.
