Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Details the Campaign’s Main Characters

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is quickly approaching its release date, as it’s launching next week alongside the next-generation consoles. Earlier today, the game’s official Twitter released more information about the old and new main characters that will be appearing in Black Ops Cold War’s campaign.

Treyarch shared the information on a Twitter thread featuring characters from the first Black Ops game, as well as new characters that will be making their first appearance in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The tweets show the characters’ personalities, histories, and nationalities, along with their specialties and roles in the story. The Twitter thread even provides links to more information about the characters straight from the Treyarch staff.

The main characters, or “operatives,” are given their own character overviews while an attached picture provides a file on them, with some redacted portions. The returning characters include protagonist Alex Mason, Frank Woods, and their former handler Jason Hudson from the original Black Ops game. The new characters include the protective Eleazar “Lazar” Azoulay, Helen Park, and Lawrence Sims. Most notably, the tweets feature the mysterious Russell Adler, who will be heading the operations in the game’s campaign.

Each of the characters has their own backstory in files detailing their lives before being recruited to the CIA’s efforts against Black Ops Cold War’s enigmatic antagonist Perseus. The returning trio of Mason, Woods, and Hudson have their own history, and will be largely boots on the ground. Lazar used to be a part of Israel Intelligence, Helen works on behalf of MI6 and the Crown, while Lawrence is a tech specialist and the closest to Russell Adler.

That leaves the shade-wearing spy, Russell Adler, who will be leading the team. He is a veteran CIA agent whose past is shrouded in secrecy, though fans know he has experience handling clandestine operations. Adler has proven to be a reliable operative and will be leading the hunt for Perseus. He is heavily promoted in most of Black Ops Cold War’s campaign trailers and the cinematic cutscenes that have been released leading to the game’s launch, all of which is building Adler up to be very significant to Black Ops Cold War’s story.

The only character players don’t know much about is the main villain Perseus, though more will be revealed in the game. Players will be able to meet the characters, old and new, in Black Ops Cold War’s main story campaign when the game launches next Friday.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches November 13 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
