Despite Call of Duty: Warzone being out for several months now, new discoveries are constantly being made within the game. Call of Duty: Warzone players are always finding a way to pull off unique plays, and the newest trick will allow fans to do just that with the game’s often-ignored Recon Drones.
Back in June, Warzone players discovered C4 could be attached to drones, leading to the creation of some incredibly dangerous flying explosives. For a short time, this led clever gamers to use Recon Drones on their enemies, picking up sneaky kills with the weaponized camera. However, this hype soon died off, and players went back to walking by the recon drone when it was seen on the ground. With a poor range, low speed, and a natural downside of taking perspective away from the player, the drones never seemed useful in most situations — until now, that is.
While the occasional incredible Warzone play is made via the use of drones, players should expect them to be seen a lot more if a new trick becomes popular. DefendTheHouse, a dedicated video game mythbuster group, recently conducted experiments where equipment was attached to the drones. While C4 and, surprisingly, Throwing Knives can be attached to the drone, the newer discoveries make the special items much more powerful and useful within the game.
First and foremost, a Trophy System can be rested on the backs of the drones. While this is hardly the first time CoD players have found clever Trophy System uses, it could be one of the most powerful. Not only do players have a mobile Trophy System that can be impactful in final showdowns, but the Trophy System and Recon Drone can actually cause minor damage. If an enemy is throwing a grenade and a player flies the Trophy Drone directly at them, the explosion will go off in front of the enemy. The same effect works with stun grenades as well.
While a moving and damage-dealing Trophy Drone is certainly dangerous, DefendTheHouse also discovered a more practical use for the drone’s stacking system. As it turns out, players can place Armor Boxes and Munitions Boxes directly onto the drone. This seems like a must-try strategy in Warzone, as it can give clever players a major edge in fights. For example, if one player is fighting on a separate rooftop and is running low on ammo or armor, their squadmate can fly them a crate using the Recon Drone. Flying items to players via drones is a lot safer than running out in the open to drop gear for them, and this discovery could greatly change Warzone fights.
It is unclear if Infinity Ward intended to have this mechanic in the game, but it certainly looks like a fun trick to try in-game. With Call of Duty: Warzone set to be integrated with Black Ops Cold War soon, it will be interesting to see if Treyarch feels the need to alter this latest drone strategy.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
