GGG Shares Its Favorite Path-of-Exile Fan-Art | Game Rant

For a lot of content creators, the existence of fan-art is either seen as a nuisance to be discouraged or a compliment to be treasured. Grinding Gear Games is one of those studios that, thankfully, tends to fall into the latter camp. In the Path of Exile forums, Head Community Manager Bex has been showcasing some of the devs’ favorites since January of 2015.

Fan art, especially for a video game, can take many forms. What format it takes has more to do with where the fan’s talents lie than the format of the original media. In this latest community showcase, Grinding Gear Games not only acknowledged two great artists and a cosplayer, but also highlighted its favorite clips from Twitch streamers, which supports the claim that gaming studios often like it when streamers broadcast their game.

First up, the cosplay. Envatilea submitted a Reddit post of her Witch costume. Not only does her outfit nearly perfectly resemble the tempest-tossed necromancer’s bedraggled state at the beginning of the campaign before she finds any armor or other items, but her pose and her haunted stare into the distance make it easy to picture her groggily getting up after washing ashore outside of Lioneye’s Watch.

Next, there is a realistic portrait of Sirus submitted to the forum by SMOKOwita. In the game, the character Sirus was the main antagonist of the Conquerors of Atlas expansion, and is often considered the 2nd hardest boss in Path of Exile. Since he appears as a skeleton wreathed in red magic, details about what Sirus looked like before his death and subsequent resurrection had to be surmised from in-game lore, such as his journals.

The third featured fan-art is also a Reddit submission, this time featuring Karst, one of the rogues introduced in Path of Exile Heist League. User Timqq captured the somber, muted colors of Path of Exile‘s darker tones, and the positioning of the character’s body relative to the frame emphasizes the potential for movement as he strikes an unseen foe.

Grinding Gear Games is unusually receptive to the fan base. Just recently, it announced that the 3.13 expansion would be delayed just so that players would not have to choose between playing Path of Exile and Cyberpunk 2077, which would have released within days of each other had GGG not stepped aside.

Path of Exile is available to play on PC, iOS, PS4, and Xbox One.
