5 Best Covenant Rewards In Dark Souls 3 For Newbies (& 5 For Pros)

Covenants in Dark Souls 3 give players access to some unique items. They have been a part of the Dark Souls series from the first game and have evolved from a rigid faction to something players can cycle through. Each Covenant offers different rewards for different play styles and builds. Some are better suited for newcomers to the game while others are better suited to veterans of the franchise.

With a total of nine Covenants, there are plenty of rewards players can earn. But which rewards are better suited for newbies and which are more helpful for pros?

10 Newbie: Wolf Knight Greatshield

Players can obtain the Wolf Knight Greatshield from the Watchdogs of Farron Covenant by reaching Rank 2. The shield provides complete physical damage and a passive boost to resistances of all status effects.

The Wolf Knight Greatshield allows players to use their weapon’s Weapon Art instead of parrying hits as regular shields do. In addition to that, the Wolf Knight Greatshield allows players to complete the Wolf Knight set along with the Wolf Knight Armor Set and the Wolf Knight Greatsword.

9 Pro: Bloodlust

Bloodlust is a katana acquired by reaching level 1 with the Mound-Makers Covenant. The sword scales up the best with dexterity so builds with high dexterity will make good use of it. The weapon cannot be infused but players can activate the Bloodlust buff which grants them a ‘bleeding’ effect to their attacks.

The downside to this weapon, however, is that players will sacrifice a small portion of their health when activating this buff. This makes this weapon better suited for experienced players that have extensive knowledge about health management.

8 Newbie: Sacred Oath

Sacred Oath is a Miracle that grants players a host of bonuses while it is active. Players can acquire this reward by giving 10 Sunlight Medals to the Warriors of Sunlight. The Miracle provides a 10% multiplicative boost to all damage players deal, not just weapon damage.

Players will also be able to get a 10% damage resistance in PvE and 5% damage resistance in PvP. Sacred Oath affects targets near the players making it for co-op play in both PvE and PvP. New players need all the edge they can get during the game and Sacred Oath provides a balanced boost to both attack and defense.

7 Pro: Obscuring Ring

Players can acquire the Obscuring Ring by reaching level 1 with the Rosaria’s Fingers Covenant. The Obscuring Ring is useful only in PvP where it makes the user invisible to human players at long distances.

The ring has no effect on PvE enemies, which are likely to be the main opponents for most newcomers to Dark Souls 3. The ring is perfect for ranged players who make use of either spells or bows.

6 Newbie: Great Deep Soul

Great Deep Soul is sorcery-type spell players can acquire by reaching level 1 with the Aldritch Faithful Covenant. It is particularly useful for those who specialize in Dark-based characters. Great Deep Soul is versatile and deals decent damage to enemies both in PvP and PvE.

The projectiles are also great at tracking targets, making the Great Deep Soul an excellent reward for ranged players. Players can acquire it by turning in 10 Human Dregs to the Aldritch Faithful Covenant.

5 Pro: Great Lightning Spear

The Great Lightning Spear is another Miracle acquired by reaching Level 2 with the Warriors of Sunlight Covenant. As the name suggests, the Miracle fires a spear of lightning that deals enormous damage to the target.

In PvE, Great Lightning Spear’s damage output is a considerable improvement over the standard Lightning Spear, making it ideal for taking down weak enemies. In PvP, Faith-based players can use an upgraded talisman to unlock the Miracle’s true destructive potential. Because of its high requirements, it is recommended for Pro players that have some experience and hours under their belt.

4 Newbie: Warmth

The Warmth pyromancy can be acquired by reaching Level 2 with the Mound Makers Covenant. Players can spawn a healing aura around them that lasts for a minute. Anyone caught in this aura can be healed by 35HP per second, both enemies and allies alike.

This is perfect for new players who often find themselves out of Estus Flasks. Players can heal themselves up while attacking from a distance, however, Warmth does not pair well with melee combat. As Warmth does not require a stat investment, it is perfect for hybrid builds or players who want a healing pyromancy but don’t want to invest in stats.

3 Pro: Archdeacon’s Great Staff

The Archdeacon’s Great Staff is a great choice for builds that want to utilize a handful of sorceries in their playthroughs. Players can acquire it by reaching Level 2 with the Aldritch Faithful Covenant.

While most staffs in the game cast sorceries while scaling with Intelligence, the Archdeacon’s Great Staff scales off Faith instead. However, players will still need to meet the Intelligence stat requirement to cast the sorceries they want. While not the strongest staff in the game, the Archdeacon’s Great Staff’s scaling allows it to become more powerful than most of its contemporaries.

2 Newbie: Darkmoon Blade

The Darkmoon Blade is one of the most sought after Covenant rewards in Dark Souls 3. Players can acquire this Miracle by offering 30 Proof of Concord Kept to the Blades of the Darkmoon Covenant. It allows the player to buff their weapons with magic damage for a minute.

Many players and enemies in the game are weak to magic damage, which makes this Miracle an excellent addition to any Faith build’s arsenal. Darkmoon Blade also adds AR equal to 95% of the players’ Spell Buff.

1 Pro: Old Wolf Curved Sword

The Old Wolf Curved Sword is a great weapon for players who prefer to take an offensive approach with their characters. Not only does the sword have a fun moveset, but it also provides players with great passives that make it a must-have.

Consecutive hits with the sword provide an attack boost and also recover a small portion of the player’s health, making it a good weapon for both PvP and PvE. As the Old Wolf Curved Sword requires 19 strength and 25 dexterity, it will not be equipable early on in a playthrough of Dark Souls 3.
