Sony’s next-generation console, the PlayStation 5, is set to launch next week on Thursday, November 12. Most fans will have to wait for the PS5’s release date to try the new console, but it seems as though some will get the chance to try it out a little earlier than expected.
An image making the rounds online appears to show a playable PS5 demo station being set up at a Best Buy store in Canada. The image was apparently sent to frequent video game industry leaker Okami by Twitter user Postrigodon. The display appears to be showing Spider-Man: Miles Morales gameplay, and while no controllers can be seen in the pic, there are clearly spaces for them. It’s not out of the ordinary for Best Buy and other retail stores to set up demo kiosks for new hardware, though it’s unclear exactly how widespread this will be.
It’s also unclear when exactly these PS5 demo kiosks will be made playable in the Best Buy stores that do set them up, and what other retail chains may do something similar. Those interested in the PlayStation 5 and are hoping to play it early may want to pay some visits to their local tech retailers on the chance that they have PS5 demo stations ready.
The Best Buy PS5 demo station isn’t the only PS5-releated news that Okami leaked recently. The leaker also shared images of a deleted YouTube video that reportedly showed the available PS5 storage space. If those images to be believed, then PS5 owners can expect to have about 667GB of available free space on their consoles after taking the OS into account. With Astro’s Playroom installed, the available free space on the PS5 drops to 648GB, which is admittedly concerning when one takes into account the ever-increasing file sizes of modern video games.
The PS5 demo station looks like it will be advertising a variety of PS5 games and accessories, though the PS5 SSD expansion upgrades aren’t seen in the images. While official plans haven’t been announced, another leaked image suggests Sony will sell PS5 SSD expansion upgrades at launch that will give players an additional 500GB of space for $115.
Other PS5 accessories are clearly seen in the images, such as the PS5-branded headset, the DualSense controller, and the media remote. Those who are looking to purchase everything will have to dedicate a decent chunk of change to the PS5 hardware lineup, but most will likely be satisfied getting their hands on just the console itself.
