Phasmophobia Adjusting Plans After Surprise Success | Game Rant

Phasmophobia gained sudden popularity in much the same way that Mediatonic’s Fall Guys or InnerSloth’s Among Us did, bursting forth to the front of the scene out of nowhere. The four player co-op ghost hunting game is incredibly unique, and the focus on teamwork with close friends is likely what it owes much of its success to. Now the developer, Kinetic Games, is having to make some difficult choices.

For those that may not have been aware, Kinetic Games has exactly one member, Dknighter. What’s more, Phasmophobia is actually his first ever game, and he has no formal development training. As such, it should come as no surprise to players that this level of success was a huge shock for Dknighter.

In a recent interview with IGN, Dknighter reveals that he’s reconsidering his plans for the game’s early access period. Though he doesn’t say exactly what he means by this, he does give some details about where he wants to take Phasmophobia moving forward and what sort of timeline he has in mind for that.

Initially, it seems as though Dknighter was planning a short early access period. During this time, he would add some features here and there and fix some bugs before releasing the game in full shortly after. Alongside the game’s immense popularity comes high expectations from fans, so Dknighter is opting to keep the game in early access longer. This will give him the chance he needs to really crack down on the game’s bugs and flaws, listen in on what the Phasmophobia community wants to see come to the game, and add larger content bundles before releasing version 1.0.

Dknighter makes it clear that his main priority at the moment is fixing the major Phasmophobia bugs that players are experiencing before working on any new content. All of these bug fixes should come out simultaneously in one large patch, but after this point new content might start being added to the game again. Players interested to keep tabs on what Dknighter is working on should be sure to check his Trello board, as it shows what projects he is prioritizing.

Aside from these comments, Dknighter doesn’t go into detail about whether or not he’s planning on hiring any help or if he’ll instead keep working on the game by himself. While fans in general are very supportive of his work as Phasmophobia dominates Steam sales, there are many eager to see more added to the game in the near future.

Phasmophobia is available now on PC.
