PS5 Storage Space Size Leaked Online | Game Rant

It may be hard to believe, but next week will finally see the launch of Sony’s next-generation console, the PlayStation 5. Some publications and influencers already have their hands on Sony’s new console, as evidenced by a since-removed YouTube video that has seemingly leaked some important information about the PS5. Namely, the video appears to leak the PS5’s usable storage space for its SSD, and needless to say, it seems as though PS5 early adopters will want to look into storage upgrades as soon as possible.

Screenshots from the video were posted to Twitter by video game industry leaker Okami, who has accurately leaked news in the past. The screenshots show that the PS5 will have about 667GB of available storage on the SSD after the OS is accounted for. That number drops to 648GB of available space when taking Astro’s Playroom into account, a game that comes built-in for free with all PS5 systems.

However, it should be noted that this leak is potentially for a PS5 dev kit, and not only that, but it lists the storage as “HDD” instead of SSD. Considering this, it’s entirely possible that this number is not as accurate as it seems. However, a previous PS5 storage space leak claimed that the console would have about 664GB of free space, so even if it’s not exactly 667GB, the real number should be close enough that the difference is negligible.

Regardless, PS5 owners should expect to invest in an SSD upgrade if they hope to have a lot of games available on their consoles without having to uninstall and re-install them consistently. Some next-gen games will have file sizes pushing 100GB (and others will exceed that size), and so the built-in PS5 SSD is likely going to fill up fast. A separate leak claims that Sony will have PS5 SSD storage expansion upgrades available at launch for $115 that will net players an additional 500GB, so fans may want to keep an eye out for those come launch day.

On the bright side, PlayStation gamers should be able to install most of the PS5’s biggest launch games on the system without having to worry about storage space. The Demon’s Souls file size is said to be around 66GB, whereas the Spider-Man: Miles Morales file size is supposedly around 50GB. The reality of Internet data caps makes having to uninstall and re-install games more of a hassle than need be, though, so hopefully PS5 SSD storage expansion upgrades are not hard to come by this holiday season.
