Bungie Confirms Destiny 2 Distress Call is Not a Puzzle for Beyond Light

Earlier this week, the official Destiny 2 Twitter posted a video featuring a garbled distress call from a radio. Players saw this as a call to action and have been attempting to figure out its purpose and meaning. Believing it may hold secrets to the upcoming expansion, Beyond Light, the online community has been wracking their brains trying to decipher its mysteries. Bungie has finally spoken up on the matter, telling players there’s no mystery to solve.

There’s a long history of Bungie using in-game puzzles and ARGs to provide additional immersion to the Destiny 2 community. Players have been so conditioned to this, they are always on the lookout for new riddles to answer. In this case, however, there’s nothing to find. After the community came together to figure out what this mysterious distress signal could mean, Bungie’s senior community manager, dmg04, took to Twitter and laid it all out for them saying, “No puzzle here.” He further confirmed that this was merely a tease for the upcoming expansion and that more will be known once it releases on November 10.

Many have pointed out that the distress call is likely just a distorted version of the one by Variks heard in the Beyond Light story trailer that released in late October. This may come as a disappointment to those who were hoping to crack the code, but with the expansion fast approaching, any questions they have will be answered soon. Instead, players should focus on preparing for the expansion, which is promising lots of new content. They can do this by collecting rare weapons and armor to flesh out their arsenal, but players should stop leveling gear in Destiny 2 altogether. Once the expansion goes live, every piece they own will jump to a power level of 1050, the current cap in the game.

Most of what players have will soon be replaced with newer and better armor. Thanks to the keen eyes of the community, we may know what the Beyond Light raid armor looks like. By comparing leaked images alongside officially released artwork and screenshots from Bungie, certain details have been gleaned as to how the gear will appear on a Guardian. The developer hasn’t confirmed the look of the new raid armor, but through these makeshift previews, the community has a good idea.

Players aren’t looking forward to all of the new changes coming with the expansion. According to the latest blog update from Bungie, the Bright Dust economy will be upended and big changes will be made to how much can be earned. Bright Dust is the game’s free currency and is used to purchase Eververse items. The expansion may see potential drops of Bright Dust earnings by over 30%, which has upset players who rely on it to add new cosmetics to their collections.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light releases on November 10th for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
