One of the very first games announced for the PlayStation 5 was the looter-slashed Godfall, set to launch in exactly one week’s time for Sony’s new system as well as on PC through the Epic Games Store. Those on PC who want to play Godfall on Steam or somewhere other than the Epic Games Store will have to wait at least a year to do so, but those who want to play it on a console other than the PS5 may not have to wait quite as long, if the launch trailer is to be believed.
The newly-released Godfall launch trailer shows the looter-slasher in action, ending with a note about how it is PlayStation 5 console exclusive. At the bottom of the screen is some small text that says Godfall will not be available “on other consoles” until at least May 12, 2021, meaning it will be PS5 console exclusive for at least six months.
The only other console on the market that could realistically play Godfall is the Xbox Series X, so one has to imagine that a port to Microsoft’s next-generation system is in the cards. However, nothing to that effect has actually been announced, and just because it’s possible Godfall could come to Xbox Series X, it doesn’t mean that it actually will.
If Godfall does come to Xbox Series X, it would potentially be a big loss for the PS5’s exclusives lineup. There is a decent amount of hype for Godfall, mainly due to its visuals and the fact that it was one of the first next-generation games that was ever revealed to the public. If Counterplay Games can stick the landing and deliver a Godfall gameplay experience that lives up to the hype, then it could very well be one of the biggest early next-gen games. But if it’s available on other platforms, then consumers may not feel the need to buy a PS5 to play it.
As far PS5 launch titles go, Godfall is one of the most notable, mainly because of its console exclusivity status. The bulk of the PS5’s launch lineup is playable on other platforms, including the PlayStation 4, and so Godfall being one of the few games that console players can only play on PS5 is significant. In fact, it’s one of the only games that actually fits that description, besides Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls remake and Astro’s Playroom, the latter of which comes built-in as a freebie for anyone who purchases a PS5 system.
Godfall launches November 12 for PC and PS5.
