Another popular horror game is going to be coming to Nintendo Switch soon, with a port of Maid of Sker now confirmed to launch on November 26. Maid of Sker was released on PC in June earlier this year and has an overall “Very Positive” review average on Steam. The first-person horror game seems a solid fit on the Switch, where players will be able to take Maid of Sker into handheld mode and scare themselves in bed.
In Maid of Sker, players will have to sneak around nightmarish enemies and environments to survive. Heavily influenced by horror games like Amnesia, the player will be given no weapons other than a defensive sound device that can stun enemies to help in stealthy endeavors. Otherwise, players will be searching for items within the environment to help them progress through the nightmarish story-driven experience.
As for the story itself, Maid of Sker is based on a Welsh tale, the haunting of Elisabeth Williams. It’s set in 1898 and focuses on a wealthy family’s hotel, a family with ties to torture, piracy, and slavery. There’s also mention of what’s known as the Quiet Ones, Maid of Sker is said to draw heavily from British folklore to help flesh out the experience
Maid of Sker is developed by Wales Interactive, which has been releasing horror games on the Nintendo Switch and other platforms since 2016. It’s perhaps best known for its the game Gamer Girl, a controversial FMV horror title about a female game streamer, which was seemingly canceled after its reveal. Maid of Sker is a much more traditional horror experience, however.
Maid of Sker is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will launch November 26 on Switch
