While Mortal Kombat 11‘s second DLC pack has Sylvester Stallone as Rambo making a surprise guest appearance, a large amount of players are more excited for the return of Mileena, a fan-favorite that has been a series regular since Mortal Kombat 2.
After being killed off during the events of Mortal Kombat X, Mortal Kombat 11‘s time-travel storyline had her fans hopeful that she would still make a return. After being excluded from the initial roster, fans were further disappointed by her lack of appearance in the first DLC pack. But now she’s finally here and has a new gameplay trailer that will no doubt satisfy her fans.
Judging by the trailer, Mileena continues to possess a feral and brutal fighting style, slashing at opponents with her sharp claws, while also wielding the sais she’s owned since her first appearance. She can still teleport as well, with one of her primary abilities being to warp towards her sais, which she throws as projectiles.
It looks like she can make the sais teleport too. At one point, several of them appear to come in from different directions off-screen, before Mileena warps to them to stab her opponent. Later on, she throws them into the ground, causing them to travel across before shooting up and then back down on her opponent. She’s also now able to turn invisible, an entirely new power for her that is probably more associated with the character of Reptile, another series regular who is completely absent from Mortal Kombat 11.
While Mileena’s default appearance is her classic purple attire and mask, the trailer provide a glimpse of her wearing a helmet very similar to the one worn by her “father” Shao Khan, making it one of her alternate cosmetics. The trailer ends with her performing a Fatality, where she turns herself into a buzzsaw of sorts to split her victim in half, most likely a combination of her rolling attack and using her sais/claws.
NetherRealm appears to be fully aware of how much demand there has been for Mileena’s return (one of her intro quotes clearly references it) and the trailer looks to be throwing more bones to her fans by having all of Mileena’s opponents being her most prominent enemies, with the video description even reading “Mileena’s got so many scores to settle.”
First is her “sister” Kitana, whose mutual animosity has existed for as long as Mileena has. Second is D’Vorah. Her beatdown may be especially cathartic for fans as it was D’Vorah who killed Mileena in Mortal Kombat X. And third is Kotal Khan, the one who overthrew Mileena and took her position as emperor.
With the trailer’s release, fans have now seen gameplay of all three of Kombat Pack 2’s characters: Mileena, the aforementioned Rambo, and Rain. But while it looks as if this pack is the last bit of DLC for the game, some fans are still hopeful that there is more to come.
A supposedly leaked screenshot from the PlayStation Store may indicate that more characters are in development, but there’s nothing to suggest that the leak is accurate.
Mortal Kombat 11 is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
