A new month is here and Pokemon GO trainers have a ton of events and challenges to work through. The holiday season is approaching and, although there are no early holiday events on the official schedule just yet, it is still a very busy time in the mobile AR game. In addition to the double Community Day events coming this month, players are also getting almost weekly rotations for the 5-star Battle Raid spot. That means that it’s time to revisit the counter rosters and prepare a lineup for this week.
Starting November 5, Lugia is once again back in the spotlight for Legendary Battle Raids. Although Lugia has been around for a long time now, it is still a valuable Pokemon for both the PvP and PvE metagame in Pokemon GO, so trainers are always interested in completing a few Battle Raids when it reappears and looking to pick up a perfect or close to perfect IV encounter. The added chance for a shiny version of the Pokemon GO Legendary also gets the attention of many collectors and completionists, which should help make the Battle Raid even more popular this week.
Lugia is only around until November 16, so trainers who are trying to score a shiny or just catch a strong version of the Legendary have to get to work pretty quickly. With that in mind, it would be wise to revisit the list of Lugia counters. It has been a while since Lugia was in 5-star Battle Raids, so that means there are new Pokemon, including Mega Evolutions, to consider when developing a lineup for the fight. Keep in mind that Lugia is a Flying- and Psychic-types. That combo gives it a few interesting strengths and weaknesses, but most players should focus on powerful Electric- and Rock-type counters to make the fight go as smoothly as possible. That said, some other types will work their way into the effective counter list thanks to the power that comes along with Mega Evolutions…
Gengar (Mega) – Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball
Kyurem (Black) – Shadow Claw/Blizzard
Zekrom – Charge Beam/Wild Charge
Houndoom (Mega) – Snarl/Foul Play
Darmanitan (Galarian Zen) – Ice Fang/Avalanche
Darkrai – Snarl/Shadow Ball
Magnezone – Spark/Wild Charge
Raikou – Thunder Shock/Wild Charge
Tyranitar – Bite/Stone Edge
Giratina (Origin) – Shadow Claw/Shadow Ball
As always, there are lots of other counters out there that can still get the job done, but players who want to power through this Legendary Battle Raid without any problems would have the best luck if they used the options presented here. Remember to take a close look at each Pokemon’s moveset and current power level before adding them to the counter roster. It may be necessary to burn through some TMs, Stardust, and Candy in order to properly prepare each counter for the big fight ahead.
For now, Pokemon GO trainers should be able to head out into the world (or play from home) and continue catching the best Unova Pokemon in the game and getting closer to that complete Pokedex. Check back for more Pokemon GO updates closer to the event. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
Pokemon GO is available now in select regions on Android and iOS devices.
