Prospective buyers of next week’s PS5 and Xbox Series X now have an exact time and date from Walmart regarding when they can get one. After the recent reveal from Sony that all next gen PlayStations would be purchased online, Walmart steps forth as the first to give fans a time frame and an understanding of how this will work.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X are in extremely high demand, so limiting orders to online purchases is useful for a couple of reasons. One obvious benefit is the elimination of crowded lines and stores, as these would contribute to the spread of Coronavirus more likely than not. Another oft overlooked benefit is the safety of employees at the store, as handling such a large group of customers at once can be risky.
The retail giant seems poised to stay on schedule with the PS5 this time, determined not to make the same mistake twice. When Walmart released PS5 pre-orders a day early, it caused quite a bit of chaos that ended in a lot of players feeling cheated out of their pre-order. This time, the rules of the game are laid out beforehand so everyone has a fair shot.
Players wanting to order a PS5 on launch day will have four separate opportunities to. On November 12th, PS5 consoles will go up for sale on Walmart.com at 12 PM, 3 PM, 6 PM, and 9 PM Eastern time. It’s not clear exactly how many units will be available for purchase or for how long the consoles will be for sale at time block, but fans should expect extremely limited supply.
Walmart is handling launch day Xbox Series X protocol slightly differently, giving fans just one time when the consoles will go live. On November 10th at 12 PM Eastern time, players will have a chance to purchase an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, and this will most likely continue until supply runs out. Given how fast pre-orders disappeared online, it’s a safe bet to say that won’t take long.
After successfully ordering a PS5 or Xbox Series X, Walmart should give instructions about pickup. More likely than not, fans will either be given an appointment for when they can come in store and pick up their new console or it will be shipped directly to the player’s address. In order to maximize their chances of getting one, it’s advised that players are waiting at the ready with fully updated Walmart accounts and payment options.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X will be available on November 12th and November 10th respectively.
