The seventh game in the official Yakuza series, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, will release for North America and Europe on November 10, 2020. Like many other entries in the series, this game will require a lot of time in order to see it to its completion.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon follows a low-ranking grunt for the Yakuza named Ichiban Kasuga. After being left to die, Ichiban goes on a quest where he must fight various members of Japan’s underground crime syndicates with RPG combat. Many fan-favorite mini-games from previous Yakuza games also return, such as karaoke, alongside many new games.
As the game was already released in Japan on January 16, 2020, many players have already completed the game. Because of this, the average playtimes have already been recorded to help new players prepare for what to expect after purchasing.
For players who are only looking to complete Yakuza: Like a Dragon‘s main story, the average amount of time it will take will be around 45 hours and 40 minutes. For those who choose to take their time, they may find their playthrough to be around 48 hours.
Of course, there are many other things to do in-game other than the main story. For players who choose the indulge in the extra content in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the average completion time is around 55 hours and 12 minutes. Those who rush even with the extras may clock in around 44 hours and 37 minutes, while those taking it easy will take around 63 hours and 49 minutes.
Finally, those who want to get every possible thing in-game and get 100 percent completion will have a much longer marathon ahead of them. The average time for completionists is 84 hours and 57 minutes. Even if players rush through their 100 percent completion run, they may still have an average time of 71 hours and 36 minutes. Meanwhile, leisurely players have an average around 94 hours and 31 minutes.
Like with the majority of games, there are speedruns that were completed after the original Japanese release back in January. As of November 5, 2020 the current world record on speedrun.com is held by InuGakushin from Japan with the completion time clocking in at 8 hours, 52 minutes, and 16 seconds. After Yakuza: Like a Dragon is released in the west, there will likely be more speedruns, and the record could possibly being beaten. However, first time players are recommended to just play through the game at their own pace and have fun.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon will release in the west on November 10 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The PlayStation 5 version will release on March 2, 2021.
