Call of Duty: Warzone, the franchise’s massively popular battle royale experience, launched with deep ties to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. But as Modern Warfare transitions out with the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Warzone is going to persist. More than that, Warzone is going to be as deeply tied to Black Ops Cold War as it is to Modern Warfare. In a new update from Activision, Warzone‘s planned integration with Black Ops Cold War has been detailed in more specificity.
Starting with player progression, Activision describes how Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will initially start off separate from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone. Military Ranks will be used to unlock certain gameplay functionality. Afterward, a new Seasonal Leveling system will be used with the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Pre-Season. But it’s only on December 10, the tentative launch of Season One, when player progression will reset and sync across Black Ops Cold War, Modern Warfare, and Warzone alike.
With Season One’s launch, players will be able to climb through 55 Military Ranks synchronized between all three games. Whether it’s playing Multiplayer or completing Challenges in either Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, or just completing Warzone matches, all experience goes into a shared pool. This system is also included in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Zombies mode. There will also be a new Prestige system with a variety of rewards.
As for both weapon and Operator unlocks, Activision has good news on both fronts. All weapons and all Operators unlocked via either Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be available in Warzone. Weapon progression will also be shared with the game from which the weapon originated. That includes primary and secondary weapons, as well as skins and attachments no matter how they’re unlocked. No Call of Duty: Modern Warfare weapons or unlocks are going away in Warzone with the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
Battle pass progression is a little more complicated. Black Ops Cold War‘s Season One battle pass progress will be shared between all three games. Players can earn battle pass XP in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The rewards will only be available in Warzone and Black Ops Cold War, though. Past battle pass content will remain accessible in Modern Warfare and Warzone, but will not come to Black Ops Cold War.
Lastly, regarding COD Point purchases, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War purchases will not cross over with each other. They will, for the most part, all work with Warzone. The shops will be clearly labeled in the rare case where this isn’t true. Yet again, Call of Duty: Warzone will be integrated with both other Call of Duty games and will remain fully supported going forward.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
