It’s N7 Day once again and NZXT, a company that manufactures PC hardware, is commemorating the occasion with a limited-edition Mass Effect version of its H510i PC case. The design is inspired by Commander Shepard’s iconic N7 armor, matching it both in color and detail. The number of available units is limited, so potential buyers will need to act soon.
In case anyone wasn’t aware, N7 Day is a yearly event where fans of Mass Effect celebrate the series. It’s also a popular day to promote and release new Mass Effect-themed products, such as the limited edition case by NZXT. It is made to look just like Shepard’s armor, featuring a kinetic armor theme and the N7 logo. It also comes with a two-sided charm that displays the renegade or paragon logo. It is available now on the NZXT website and is priced at $200. There will only be 500 units available, so supply is limited.
For most fans, today is simply a time to reflect on how the series impacted them in some way, but for others, it’s a reason to jump back into the boots of Commander Shepard and replay their favorite entry. Soon, this can be done in a great new way. BioWare has officially announced Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, which contains remasters of the original three Mass Effect games. These new versions will support up to 4K resolution, with improved frame rates and textures. The character models, shaders, and effects have also gotten a tune-up so the experience will be as up to date as possible. The Legendary Edition will contain all single-player DLC and promotional items as well.
It releases in spring 2021 and will be available across all platforms except two. Unfortunately, the Legendary Edition won’t reach next-gen consoles. That is to say, it won’t be directly released on either of them. PS5 and Xbox Series X users will have to buy the previous generation console versions then play on the next-gen consoles via forward compatibility. It’s a strange choice from BioWare, but at least people will still be able to access and enjoy the remastered games on a more powerful machine. However, with the announcement that a new Mass Effect is in development, next-gen consoles will eventually get a title tailored for them.
With a replay of these titles, there is the unfortunate snag of knowing how it will all end, which was a highly controversial topic when the third and final game released in 2012. Since then, people have debated theories that rationalize the arguably mediocre finale. However, it’s really the journey there that matters. It will still be fun to play through, fighting side by side with comrades and meeting all of the interesting characters in that universe once again. The real question is whether players will make the same choices in Mass Effect or try something new this time around.
