When Madden NFL 21 released earlier in 2020, fans were initially up in arms at how the release was a graphical update and nothing more. Despite lacking new features wanted by players, however, the game was a top seller in August and EA has been releasing patches to steadily improve the experience. But yesterday, much of the community started experiencing a new type of problem.
As of Friday morning, Madden players are having trouble signing into the game. This issue has arisen from the November patch following October’s Title Update which was intended to fix other bugs and introduce new features for players. However, EA also gave detailed instructions on how to resolve this issue by deleting and reinstalling the game on its available platforms.
Players will first have to exit Madden NFL 21 and make sure it is completely closed. Afterwards, they need to go into their file explorer and look for Local Disk (C:) under This PC. From there, click on Program Data, Frostbite, Madden NFL 21, and LCU in that order. Delete the LCU folder by right clicking on it and selecting “Delete” which should be the third to last option below. Finally, restart the PC and open Madden NFL 21 which should fix the problem.
Close Madden NFL 21 by pressing the PS button, highlighting the game on the dashboard, press the Options button, and select Close Application. Once back to the PS4 main menu, bring up Madden NFL 21’s Options, select Delete and confirm the action. Then reinsert and launch the Madden NFL 21 disc or go to the PlayStation Store and reinstall if it was bought online. Once the game has been reinstalled and updated, launch Madden NFL 21 and the issue should be resolved.
Xbox One players must exit the game by pressing the Xbox button, highlighting Madden NFL 21, then pressing the Menu button and Quit option. The next step is highlighting Madden NFL 21 in the games list before selecting Options and Manage Game and Addons. From there, look through Saved Data and Reserved Space for a 4GB file. Bring up the options for that file, click Clear Reserved Space, and confirm the action by pressing it once again. Finally, restart the Xbox One and players should be able to sign into the game once it launches.
Although this sign-in issue is another one added to the bucket list of problems in Madden NFL 21, EA’s immediate workaround and attempts to fix the issue show that the company is committed to making the game worthy of its predecessors in the long-running series. With updates like the recent addition of Colin Kaepernick, EA is still observing what they should and shouldn’t do to make future titles a continued success.
Madden NFL 21 is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are also in development.
