Sony has suddenly released a new State of Play presentation that focuses completely on the upcoming PS5 exclusive remake of Demon’s Souls. The new gameplay footage gives us an in-depth look at the intricate character customization, some of the different classes, as well as locations and the iconic bosses such as the Flamelurker and Dirty Colossus.
SIE and Blue Point Games are hard at work in developing a faithful remake of 2009’s iconic Demon’s Souls, an action RPG developed by FromSoftware that kicked off a whole new genre of games now notably known as “SoulsBorne”, by its ever-growing passionate community. While the release of Elden Ring is still shrouded in a never-ending mystery, Bluepoint Games seems to have taken the responsibility to cater to the needs of this dedicated community of gamers.
The new footage takes us through the various attributes of this visually stunning remake that has been made from the ground up. Kicking off with the Demon’s Souls character creation, which allows players to start by choosing a body type and then further allowing to customize a plethora of features including skin, hair, eyes, etc. The footage also shows the player character exploring The Nexus, the game’s hub where players can talk to various NPC’s and travel to the five different Archstones of the kingdom of Boletaria. SIE Worldwide Studios Creative Director Gavin Moore also revealed that many of the voice actors from the original game have returned, something that would be appreciated by the veteran fans.
Moreover, Gavin also confirmed that this State of Play video was running on the game’s Performance Mode that targets 60 FPS at Dynamic 4K resolution. Meanwhile, players can also switch back to the Cinematic Mode that renders Native 4K resolution with a targeted 30 FPS. Irrespective of which mode players choose to play the game on, Demon’s Souls looks breathtakingly beautiful (even without the Ray Tracing) as is indicated by this latest footage which also shows the dimly lit, claustrophobic areas of the legendary “Prison of Hope” location in Tower of Latria, and the wide, rain-soaked, open spaces from the Shrine Of Storm, which also shows off a character from the Thief’s build.
Demon’s Souls continues to look impressive and is one of the many titles that launches alongside the PS5 this month. Not being a cross-generation game like Sony’s other first-party launch title- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, that’s also coming to the PS4, makes getting a PS5 at launch even more relevant than it may seem to some.
However, it’s still a bit early to predict whether this lavishly made remake of one of the most challenging games of all time will actually play as good as it looks. This is even more of a concern considering how 2018’s remake of Shadow of the Colossus from Bluepoint Games, while looking every bit as impressive felt a bit clumsy in the gameplay department.
Demon’s Souls launches November 12 exclusively for the PS5.
