Xbox Is Fine With Fans Using the Xbox Series X if They Get It Early

The Xbox Series X console launches in just two days. After months of waiting, the next-generation Xbox console will soon be in players’ hands, but some Xbox fans are luckier than others, it seems. With the launch of any new and highly sought after item, retailers accidentally send some out early, and that’s also the case with the Xbox Series X. To assuage the worries of early Xbox Series X acquirers, Microsoft has issued a statement saying to go ahead and enjoy the new console early.

Microsoft’s response comes from the official Xbox support account. The account recognizes that several people have asked whether it’s safe to use the Xbox Series X consoles that they received pre-launch. While Microsoft doesn’t say how many people have received their consoles early, it was clearly enough to prompt a public statement. The Xbox account assures Xbox Series X owners that it’s safe to “fire it up & start gaming!” No one’s going to have their console’s bricked or their Xbox Live accounts banned.

There is one other important detail that Microsoft mentions in the same tweet, the fine text being that while using the Xbox Series X prior to launch is fine, the console and many games are likely to receive launch updates. As such, the Xbox Series X experience right now may be different, and likely worse, than what’s to come on November 10. Given the widespread use of day one patches over the past generation, Xbox fans will hopefully be empathetic with this.

Following that up, Xbox also encourages its fans to look up their order information to see when they should expect their Xbox Series X consoles to arrive. The first statement led several pre-orderers to question how they can get their Xbox Series X consoles early, too, though Microsoft probably isn’t the company to ask about that.

Getting the Xbox Series X isn’t necessarily as great of a thing as some might expect, as Xbox Series X versions of games won’t be arriving until the release date and even free updates probably won’t arrive until November 10. Still, it’s a better situation than getting a PS5 early, since so many Game Pass games will work.

For those who have yet to receive their Xbox Series X consoles, everything’s okay. The Xbox Series X launch is just two days away, which is a short wait for a next-gen console that will deliver console games for years into the future.

The Xbox Series X releases November 10.
