This past Saturday, All Elite Wrestling hosted its Full Gear pay-per-view event, which saw every championship in the company on the line and a brutal “I Quit” match between Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston. AEW president Tony Khan holds press conferences after pay-per-view events, and it was at this latest presser that he touched on the company’s upcoming video game projects that are currently in the works.
The AEW video game is expected to be announced at the special AEW Games event November 10, so fans will have to wait until then for more concrete details. However, it does appear as though the AEW video game will have a General Manager mode, or alternatively, that AEW is making a video game dedicated entirely to the idea of a GM mode. Khan stated during the Full Gear post-show press conference that the company is “going to put something out” for people who like to put together wrestling cards.
Khan hinted at multiple AEW video games being in development, so it’s entirely possible that instead of a GM mode being part of the main game, it will be its own thing. On paper, it sounds like something similar to the Football Manager or Baseball Manager simulation games that are available, but again, that’s just speculation at this time.
While more information will likely come on November 10, so far there is very little that fans actually know about the AEW video game. Various people involved with AEW have hinted at the game and what it may entail once it finally sees the light of day, but nothing concrete has been shown so far. Cody Rhodes has teased that the AEW video game will be similar to WWF No Mercy, though, so fans have that to keep in mind.
Whenever fans do get a look at the AEW video game, they should be able to expect a game that will please wrestling game fans. Many people involved with AEW are avid gamers themselves, including Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega, and so they should be in-tune with what fans are hoping to see from an AEW game. And with the WWE 2K series on break due to the poor reception to last year’s game, now seems like a great time for the AEW video game to strike out and establish itself as a must-have for professional wrestling fans.
Whether or not the AEW video game lives up to expectations remains to be seen, but fans should have a better idea once it’s properly revealed.
