All Elite Wrestling hosted its Full Gear pay-per-view event this past Saturday, which saw AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida defending her title against “The Native Beast” Nyla Rose, who had Vickie Guerrero in her corner. Ultimately, Shida was able to successfully retain her title against Rose, who wrestled in gear that was clearly inspired by Capcom’s popular Mega Man franchise.
Nyla Rose wore dark blue and yellow ring gear at Full Gear that was definitely a nod to Capcom’s Blue Bomber. It was some of Rose’s most visually-striking ring gear to date, and it will be interesting to see if she continues to wear it while wrestling on episodes of AEW Dynamite and Dark, or if it’s just a one-time thing.
Nyla Rose’s opponent in the match, Hikaru Shida, was also wearing video game-inspired gear. Shida has been wrestling in gear that seems to be based on Final Fantasy 7‘s Tifa for quite some time now, having previously debuted it at a different AEW pay-per-view event. Usually when wrestlers debut this special video game-inspired gear, they only wear it for one show or two, so some fans were surprised to see Shida make the Tifa gear a seemingly permanent part of her in-ring look.
Looking ahead, fans can expect video games to continue to be well-represented on All Elite Wrestling shows. Many members of the AEW roster are big video game fans, and video games themselves have even been featured in storylines. For example, the CEO fighting game tournament boss was once strangled with a GameCube controller at an event, and a feud between the Best Friends, Miro, and Kip Sabian has started due to the Best Friends destroying Sabian’s arcade cabinet.
On November 10, AEW’s connection to the gaming industry will deepen even further. AEW Games will be hosting a special event where it’s expected to reveal the company’s plans for upcoming video game titles. Official details are scarce, but we do know that there are multiple AEW video games in active development. Cody Rhodes has hinted at an AEW video game in the style of WWF No Mercy, whereas rumor has it that a different AEW video game will be based around the concept of General Manager mode.
AEW fans have more than just the video game reveal to look forward to this week, though. There will be a new episode of AEW Dynamite airing on this coming Wednesday, November 11, which should will feature the fallout from the Full Gear pay-per-view event.
