Has the God of War Ragnarok Sequel Already Been Delayed?

Sony just released a new ad for the PlayStation 5 that showed a highlight reel of some of the highly-anticipated games coming to the next-gen console. The latest ad also included a subtle note that revealed the release window of Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and more. However, it appears that the trailer did not provide a release window for the God of War sequel.

As previously mentioned, the latest ad of the PS5 provided the release window of games to expect for the entirety of 2021, including both the first an second half. Of course, there are likely more games coming to the console apart from those mentioned in the trailer, but the absence of a God of War Ragnarok sequel mention might be a cause of concern. In a teaser trailer for the game released in September, it was revealed that the God of War sequel is slated to release in 2021. And given that all the games mentioned in the latest trailer of the PS5 are also big games releasing next year, it’s a mystery why God of War Ragnarok wasn’t included.

One possibility as to why Sony did not include God of  War Ragnarok in the ad is because the game might be delayed to 2022, or already has been internally. Of course, it is not uncommon for developers to indicate a release window only for it to get pushed back to a later date, especially if the game is in its early stages of development. Although this scenario may be disappointing to some, it’s not really that surprising, especially since Santa Monica Studios hasn’t really shown any footage of the game as of yet. It’s worth noting that almost all of the games that were given a release window in the latest PS5 ad already have trailers showing players what to expect. However, the only preview for God of War Ragnarok is an extensive look at its logo.

On the flip side, the absence of  God of War Ragnarok in the ad could also mean that the game is still set to release next year, but Santa Monica is either not ready to commit to a specific part of 2021. It could also be saving the announcement for a huge reveal later on. Because God of War Ragnarok is probably one of the biggest games coming to the PS5, this possibility is not at all unlikely, so it is interesting to see what will happen in the coming months. For now, there’s no confirmation one way or the other, but many fans appear to be questioning this now.

Whatever the case may be, the only thing fans could do right now is to wait for an official update. Meanwhile, the latest PS5 ad revealed that Gran Turismo 7, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Returnal, are all coming to the PS5 in the first half of 2021, with Horizon Forbidden West releasing on the PS4 and PS5 later that year.

A God of War sequel is in development for the PS5.
