Fans of the Pokemon series know there’s an abundance of Poke Ball and Pikachu-themed merchandise available practically everywhere nowadays. Whether online shopping from superstores like Amazon, supporting artist-vendors through Etsy, or simply browsing a local Walmart, gamers can find Pokemon products to suit nearly any need, and to match nearly any Pokemon, like Metapod.
Bandai has announced pre-orders for a new human-sized Pokemon onesie-chair hybrid designed to resemble the Cocoon Pokemon, Metapod. This green chair is available only to Japanese customers through Bandai’s International site, and promises a comforting experience that you “absolutely won’t want to leave.”
Anime and game aficionados may already be aware, but Bandai’s international site offers a variety of interesting products. Aside from this larger-than-life Metapod pod, gamers can find a variety of Digimon, Sailor Moon, and Gundam products among many other things.
Metapod evolves from Caterpie, and eventually becomes the majestic Butterfree. Ash’s Butterfree drew fans’ sympathy in the original Pokemon anime series, as it was one of the first major departures from Ash’s Pokemon team.
Canonically speaking, Metapod is somewhat useless. Much like any cocoon in real life, Metapod is known for doing not much more than rocking back and forth and occasionally hardening itself in self-defense. This product stays true to the Metapod name by letting fans of the chrysalis Pokemon crawl inside and relax in style.
The giant Metapod chair is officially named the “Totally Never Want To Leave Metapod” (“絶対に出たくない トランセル”) and it measures 970mm (approximately 3 feet) tall in its seated position. The cushiony chair is made entirely of polyester and is being sold for 35,000 yen (approximately 330 dollars).
Although fans can expect their Metapod to ship in April 2021, this new product already seems to have sold out of preorders. Any Pokemon Bug-type fanatics who haven’t already snagged a preorder will have to wait before getting their hands on one of these. If the Metapod chairs do come back into circulation though, hopefully, they’ll be made available globally.
For now, fans can indulge in currently available material like any of the goods sold by official Pokemon Centers, or The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokemon Sword and Shield. This recently released addition is the second part to a two-part Expansion Pass for Pokemon Sword and Shield. The first part, Isle of Armor, was made available earlier this summer, but left fans waiting for a fair number of highly anticipated Pokemon, like the Galarian Legendary Bird trio. Thankfully, those parts of the Expansion can now be found in The Crown Tundra.
