Phasmophobia creator and Kinetic Games founder Dknighter usually releases Phasmophobia patches that fix the game’s bugs. However, Phasmophobia‘s November 9 update not only removes a ton of the game’s glitches, but it also adds two new gameplay elements for players to enjoy. While they don’t change the way the game plays all too much, their addition shows that Dknighter is on track to flesh the game out as planned.
The first of the new elements is an additional Phasmophobia challenge for players to tackle while they’re out studying ghosts. All players need to do to complete it is put some salt on the floor and get a ghost to walk through it. The second mechanic allows dead players to pick up and throw around non-equippable objects, just like the ghost that killed them. This feature will more than likely be used by players to scare their friends further, or just to throw things at each other.
Details regarding the update come by way of Phasmophobia‘s official Twitter account — though, if players want more information on what the patch provides, such as the specific bug fixes, they can check out the Phasmophobia Discord changelog. It details everything the patch provides. As is the norm with Phasmophobia updates, there are quite a few fixes and some of the game’s existing features have been updated, such as the ghost photo daily challenge completing itself for all players when just one of them takes the picture.
These new Phasmophobia mechanics won’t be the last additions it gets during its Early Access release. Dknighter said he changed his original plans for the game due to its breakout success. He’s extended the game’s Early Access for an undisclosed period and plans to use the time to fix as many of the game’s bugs as possible while also adding new content. Fans of the game can see what some of these new additions might be on the public Phasmophobia Trello board.
It’s important to note that not everything on the board will make the cut. The best example would be the Phasmophobia PvP mode that Dknighter recently removed from his plans. It would have seen the game play out normally, save for the ghost being player-controlled instead of AI. It seems the removal of the PvP mode was a rare occurrence, though, as Dknighter put it there to test fan reactions. Time will tell how the other Trello additions fare on the cutting room floor.
Phasmophobia is available now on PC.
