What the roadmap has labeled as a “Classified Warzone Experience” but the redacted text says a tad bit more. It is this text that has players connecting the new leaderboard to the upcoming Warzone game mode.
Among the redacted text located on the Season 1 Road Map is the word Island next to what appears to be a Russian word. The word translates to “Rebirth” making the mysterious phrase “Rebirth Island.” Many players are already theorizing that the new classified Warzone experience will be a new map, but the leaderboard and island references make it sound more like an exclusive game mode. These subtle details have sparked a new hunt for information among the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War community who continue to discover puzzles around every corner.
What makes this even more interesting is the Call of Duty: Black Ops history revolving around the phrase “Rebirth Island.” In the first Call of Duty: Black Ops title players travel to a Rebirth Island where they locate a Soviet testing facility and discover Nova 6 gas being developed. This is the same mission in which Call of Duty: Black Ops’s Mason executes Steiner in an epic confrontation.
The depiction of Nova 6 gas as a biochemical weapon has always been a dark green gas that kills whatever it touches within 20 seconds of exposure. For many players, the reaction to Nova gas sounds vaguely like the non-stop gas assault of Verdansk. While some fans see it as a coincidence, even Call of Duty: Modern Warfare had a theme revolving around biochemical weapons.
Considering that Call of Duty: Warzone separates its leaderboard between Plunder and Mini Royale stats, many players are suggesting that Rebirth will be a game mode. Players could have to travel back to the legendary island and contend once again with the toxic gas that threatened players back during the original Black Ops missions.
