Although the PlayStation 5 console exclusive was delayed until next year, Deathloop is still regarded by many as one of the biggest releases slated to come to Sony’s next-generation hardware. Building on Arkane Studios‘ immersive open-world sandbox formula, the game tasks players with assassinating a number of high priority targets, with every failure sending them back to the start of an infinite time loop.
Yesterday, Arkane’s ambitious new game’s release date was leaked thanks to a listing on the New Zealand PlayStation Store, with Deathloop allegedly launching on May 20, 2021. Alongside the major slice of new information, it seems the game’s pre-order bonuses were also revealed, with the title getting additional content for early-adopters and those who purchase a comprehensive Digital Deluxe Edition.
In terms of normal pre-orders, players will get access to three new items: the Royal Protector Machete, the “Storm Rider” skin for Colt, and one equipabble buff known as a trinket. The trio of Deathloop bonuses will seemingly provide a small selection of exclusive treats for players, with the Royal Protector Machete allegedly also being PlayStation 5 exclusive.
As for Deathloop‘s Digital Deluxe Edition, it will feature several major additions to the core lineup of weapons and skins. The weapons on offer will give players access to the Transtar Trencher, the Eat the Rich Tribunal weapon, and the .44 Karat Fourpounder. As for clothing, they’ll receive the “Party Crasher” Colt and the “Sharp Shooter” Julianna skins. Finally, they’ll also receive two trinkets and the game’s original soundtrack. Overall, there’s a lot of content for those wanting to get in early on Arkane’s newest project, with several outfits, weapons, and trinkets on offer.
As for the game itself, Deathloop is already looking to be an innovative new take on the Dishonored and Prey developer’s unique style. Following Colt as he traverses Blackreef island in search of set targets to eliminate, the game seemingly utilizes its time loop focus to allow players to perfect their route to victims. The game will mix in another layer, however, with multiplayer seeing a second player join the fray as Julianna: a fellow assassin with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing Colt.
Having to execute targets before another player finishes you seems like a recipe for intense shoot-outs and heart-racing moments. Seeing as multiplayer isn’t something Arkane has ever really focused on either in its traditionally story-focused single-player adventures, fans seem excited to see the game in action. If the recent leak is correct, fans will get their hands on the game during May next year.
Deathloop is rumored to be releasing on May 20, 2021.
